The downvote idea is pretty solid. I used to post on a forum in the mid 2000s. Can’t remember the name. When it implemented a downvote system on the forum, troll population declined significantly. No gang bang behavior from what I recall. But the demographic was American/Canadian so we’re dealing with a completely different mindset.
I think mods could review downvoted posts and if they’re being downvoted for no rhyme or reason then they could warn members who have a history of misusing it. Much like how reporting works now. Of course, it’s asking a lot from moderators who are already volunteer workers. But something to think about if this gets worse.
Or tie it to reporting.
If "x" number of people report trolling/bullying/MID a user gets throttled. The mod can still review and undo. If it is revealed to be a mass attack to silence someone all who reported get suspended for a week.
