Actually, someone made a good point during last night’s MID mayhem. I cannot remember which member said this but credit goes to them. They suggested newbies should have to wait a few days before they are able to post on the forum.

Let’s face it, people who creat MIDs do not have the mental faculties to engage rationally. So MIDs are created in the heat of the moment to argue or fight against opposing views or to harass someone they dislike in a flame war thread.

When people have a few days to cool off, they know their MIDs aren’t going to have the same impact on the person they are trying to harass. Should be enough to take care of this problem.

Vijay, is this doable? Restricting posts from newbies for a few days before they are able to post?

Another thing that can be done is that any older members who are agreeing and liking such bigot newbies posts, they should be banned for a week … even last night there were members who were quoting and agreeing with one of the MIDs… ironically the ones that agree and engage with such MIDs are thr one who are usually suspected to be behind them.

so if there is a MID which is tagging and bullying certain members. There should be a rule that any member engaging and egging such MIDs would be banned for one week or a month. That way if no one is giving that MID any attention, it will go away on its own.

I have also thought of a downvote system where getting a certain threshold of downvotes limits posting capabilities. But I worry about people ganging to silence someone they dislike.

That being said, until IF can implement feasible solution - our only support is ourselves.

The downvote idea is pretty solid. I used to post on a forum in the mid 2000s. Can’t remember the name. When it implemented a downvote system on the forum, troll population declined significantly. No gang bang behavior from what I recall. But the demographic was American/Canadian so we’re dealing with a completely different mindset.

I think mods could review downvoted posts and if they’re being downvoted for no rhyme or reason then they could warn members who have a history of misusing it. Much like how reporting works now. Of course, it’s asking a lot from moderators who are already volunteer workers. But something to think about if this gets worse.

Ha ha. It’s always a battle between mouth and stomach.

Dosa is my favorite too. You can’t find decent Dosa in US. Not even in restaurants owned by South Indians.
