Funny precap - D is the one who pulls the lever (or whatever it is that hangs a person). While the proof is torn again, seems like M will jump in to save R from dying. More likely its someone's dream.

Next day-Mohan&Shekhar take those letters for forensic reports

Gungun suffers panic attack.

D sends Tulsi bro to stop Mohan,goons beat him but Mohan remembers R words in jail so he gets up and beats them more.

D vs R where R is confident Mohan will reach in time and later will celebrate Janmashtami together. (Bit too much to have females lecture while Mohan gets the hard task to deal with those goons...his hand bleeding in the rain,filmy image)

R head covered,ready for execution,Mohan enters with Tulsi bro tied on his car...Shekhar will come later,execution order is canceled. Mohan still has to convince jail people...and D will take advantage and try to hang R with her own hands.

So thats how D ends up doing the needful.

Among other things, odd that the ghost has to be 'let in' by the police to see R. Her in the execution area would've been good. [For the nth time - a wasted character and talent.]
