That is NOT the premise.

I just wondered how come they have become so popular that people even want to look like them, buy Korean skin care and make up products and try their home remedies, diet etc to look like them?

We have not seen such craze for any culture earlier except Western one which became famous due to Hollywood and people wanted to look like those European and American stars they saw in songs and films.

Never said Korean culture is famous just for their looks.

K-Pop is just a passing phase. When I was growing up it was all about EDM. Tiesto, Avicci, Guetta, Van Dyk etc. Today these guys are relegated to Vegas Pool Parties & Festivals. There's always phases like this when it comes to music. There's your mainstays & then there is something that becomes a cultural phenomena for a few years & fizzles out.

Maybe living in India gives you this impression through Social Media that Korean culture is taking over but it's actually not. Not in the mainstream, not in daily life. The best Korean thing is still Korean BBQ.

Not just social media.

I have legit seen people suddenly interested in their skin care, make up, cuisine, literature, home remedies in real life and curious or fascinated or wanting hair or skin like them.

And it is a fact and there were articles and reports on western youth even considering to travel to Korea to look for a partner as they are so carried away by their dramas and music that they think their boys and girls will make the best partner.

You want me to post links of those reports?

In real life I have seen renewed interest in their food.

They dominate so much that people now think Asian means Korean though Asia has many other nations and not just Koreans.

Like we are also Asians technically. But now when one hears the word Asian in media or discussions abroad, they assume it must be someone with Mongoloid features and belonging to a place like South Korea or probably China, Japan etc.

Though I agree it is a phase and no one knows if it will sustain or not.

So far only American pop culture has managed to sustain popularity and reach worldwide for generations. And their soft power is still unmatched.

Korean stuff is indeed popular globally as of now.

Same applies to people who are fans of Bollywood and some local regional actors.

Also your or others' not giving a damn about a phenomenon does not mean it is not there.

Are you sure you’re not mistaking them for Gucci bags from Chinatown? Pretty sure Koreans carry the real ones. Korean Americans are very brand conscious just like Persian Americans.
