The West Indies openers blunted out the new ball, but the early introduction of Ashwin sent both of them packing. It was debutant Alick Athanaze who was their best batter, but he too narrowly missed out on a fifty. Most of the West Indian batters fell victim to playing rash shots, devoid of any Test application or attrition. Ravi Ashwin nabbed another fifer, and Jadeja picked three on a pitch that aided turn and bounce right from the first hour of play. The West Indies innings folded for 150 runs, as India were sharp on the field and consistent with their bowling. In reply, the Indians have notched up 80 for no loss, with both batters looking ominous. Jaiswal was a bit nervy to begin with and took a few balls to get off the mark, while Rohit was untroubled for the bulk of his innings. The openers mixed caution with aggression, punishing the bad balls as Windies struggled for consistency with their lines. They tried all five of their main bowling options but none of them worked, not even a half chance created. The hosts could be in for a long, long day in the field tomorrow...

Ravichandran Ashwin: Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different. Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we're going to see some special performances from him.

Ravichandran Ashwin: Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later.
