Because i think she is actually talented, Now it’s a investment that’s yielding results for Kjo. In the past few years she has given very less bad performances (Not talking about niche but popular opinion here ) When a director/ producer works with her , it’s kind of a surety the movie is a hit. In 90s and early 2000s many actors had this much credibility but now hardly 1 or 2. So yea it’s a give and take. Also it seems she is a good mentee and follower. While Sid and Varun come across as people with mind and ego of their own, Alia seems someone who can take orders and follow as is.

Immediately after SOTY wasHumpty. The Dulhania movies are supposed to be a franchise as well. In fact recently there was some talk of starting the third one.

Varun and Alia were announced for Shuddhi with a lot of media hype and attention. Karan Malhotra was gonna start preproduction work as soon as Brothers was released. But Brothers flopped and KJo decided against giving Karan Malhotra a large budget to start Shuddhi. Behind the scenes there probably was a fallout because Karan Malhotra left Dharma, went to YRF and a few years later got Shamshera. As consolation prize KJo took his dad’s old story from the 80s or 90s called Shiddat and gave it to Varun and Alia to be directed by Abhishek Varman and changed its title to Kalank. Of course Shiddat/Kalank developed its own mini drama with Sridevi wanting it to become Janhvi’s debut movie and Alia threatening to “be very upset” with KJo and Abhishek if she lost the movie.

Yes Sid has gotten roles from KJo but to say that Sid has gotten the same kind of attention and treatment from KJo that Alia has been getting is just not true.

Shuddhi, which apparently was about reincarnation. As it was mentioned above it went through a few cast changes but then landed in Alia and Varun’s laps in 2015 with a lot of hype and media attention, until it was shelved.

Takhat was announced in 2019, and it is a historical drama about the Mughul era, with Alia, Ranveer, Vicky, Janhvi, and Kareena. No Varun this time. As of now the movie is shelved though KJo has implied that he will revisit it at some later time.
