@bold is the aspect where I believe the left has lost the ploMost parents want their children to be safe, thrive, and succeed. Most parents are bound to react more strongly than the average person. But when parents react, the left often dismisses it as transphobic and homophobic.

Not that parents aren't transphobic or homophobic. There are indeed bad ones. But when there is so much misinformation, there needs to be additional space and leeway for parental concerns.

Puberty blockers work like birth control (oversimplification).

When you take birth control, pregnancy is averted by either preventing ovulation or creating conditions that prevent fertilization. As soon as you stop taking birth control your uterus resumes 100% normal functionality.

When you take puberty blockers it prevents changes that happen during puberty like voice breaking, development of boobs, genital hair and development, etc. As soon as you stop it puberty continues like normal.

One of the known side effects is low bone density which is addressed through supplements. Other than that they are relatively safe. However, since puberty blockers are new, most of the first recipients have not gone through middle or old age. We do not know how they impact the "whole life." One suspected risk is infertility. Since there are unknown the NHS decided to limit puberty blockers to research settings only.

I understand the mistrust of pharmaceuticals because they are profit driven. But if you mistrust even academics and the media, where/how will you get your information from? Would you rather trust politicians and influences who have zero knowledge or expertise on a subject?

There is not much money to be made in academia. Many researchers are postdocs who get paid a fraction of what the industry does and will lose their jobs when the grant money runs out or a project is shut down for a variety of academic politics.

The average human life expectancy has gone up from 48 in 1950 to 74 in recent times. And that is the average. People in developed nations are living well into 80s and 90s, something unheard of a few decades ago. It's all due to modern science.

In the states, a lot of data is available through the NIH. You can access it yourself and draw your own conclusions. I personally trust research and health information put forth by Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins, and my alma mater UW–Madison.

Agreed on many of the points.

I rely a lot on Mayo Clinic.

John Hopkins did this.

Also curious to know your views about John Money who conducted gender experiment on twin boys. One of them, David Reimer had a sex change operation as a child (as coerced by John) and grew up to hate his identity. Later committed suicide.

I have one complaint..why cant they push again for agri reforms too😒

UCC is double sided sword. Can work and will also make Indian Leftists and fundamentalists go into frenzy. Sabki vote bank appeasement politics ki vaat lag jayegi. 😆

About Farm Laws.
Surprisingly I am seeing some Dalit activists are blaming govt for giving in to protests and repealing farm laws. Some are down right hilarious but I am definitely surprised at the U-Turn. May be farm laws can come back too.

I've honestly given up on the alphabet soup and its semantics. Actually, I refused to label my sexuality even before gen z.

Honestly, idgaf what name, pronouns, genders, or identities anyone uses for me. I will always treat people with kindness and respect. If I don't get kindness and respect in return, then it's three strikes.

For me, women are transwomen and ciswomen just like photons are particles and waves or carbon is both diamond and graphite - but you won't propose with a graphite ring.

I'd say this is another reason why irrespective of religious beliefs, circumcision should be banned. Botched circumcision can have disastrous consequences.

But gender reassignment, as we have been discussing is not a parent reacting to a botched circumcision.

We are talking about kids who were assigned a gender based on the biological genitalia they were born with and raised lovingly by their parents. But they feel a disconnect from the gender they are assigned. They are not kids who engage in nonconforming behavior but kids who genuinely feel disconnected from their biological bodies.

If anything, David Reimer's case proves that there may be a neurological basis for gender identity. This neurology determines how people feel about their bodies. Cis people who align with their body will never feel the disconnect transfolk do. Trans folk who go through gender reassignment feel deep sense of satisfaction and happiness. Those who go through the transition for the wrong reasons regret it and try detransitioning.

IMO, John Money specialized in intersex people. These are very rare circumstances where a person is born with some form of both male and female traits. Historically, these children were abandoned or parents randomly decided which gender they wanted to raise their children and got gender assignment surgery done on children. But now, gender assignment is not done on children. Even intersex children who may be raised in a gender of their parent's choosing are encouraged to be left biologically as they are and allow the choice to choose their biological gender later in life.

Since David Reimer was born anatomically male, John Money was the wrong person to consult for his situation. Also, in the past, there were many unethical experiments - like the Stanford Prison experiment. Nowadays, experiments are subjected to a lot more oversight and rigor. This is a rare one of incident that really does not have parallels with transgender folk.

But I do encourage seeking multiple medical and psychological opinions. Not just for gender reassignment - but even if it's a wisdom tooth extraction - it's your body or the body of a loved one - nothing wrong with taking care to be comfortable with the decision.

I consider myself liberal and quite far left of the political spectrum and I hundred percent support a uniform civil code. In fact, I firmly believe that a uniform civil code that had the same marriage, divorce, inheritance, and other laws for all people should have been instilled with the constitution in 1950.

UCC in India and only one group will cry. My bet on Arfa, Rana, Sayema and Swara didi.
