“Jaya jaya jaya priya Bharata Janayithrhree,”, by Devulapalli Krishna Sastry.. This was reportdly sung for the first time in 1935. The lyric was set to music in Yaman Kalyan, Rupaka Talam, by Dr. Avasarala Anasuya Devi, niece of Krishna Sastry.

This song competed with "Jana Gana Mana" for the status of National Anthem.

This was almost selected, but Tagore and the powerful Bengali lobby got the honours. Since this is in Sanskrit language, which is very ancient, got accolades from leaders and literary lovers alike.

The singers make some epithets' endings sound nominative (janayitrī, dhātrī, yugalā, caraṇā), or masculine (āñcala, kuntala, paritoṣaṇa, viharaṇa) but they should be consistently vocative feminine:

In the pallavī, the word dhātri may be the vocative feminine of dhātṛ (creator), or it may call to a child's nurse.

In the anupallavī, the word netri means "leader" or "guide" of hearts (vocative declension of netrī, the feminine of netṛ), probably not "eyes" (which would normally be netre, vocative of netrā).

In the first caraṇam, the word cūrṇa means "perfume" (or dust/powder/pollen) - the spring-flowering creepers are her sportively moving perfumed tresses. The word āśaya has many meanings, including ambitions and reservoir, so madīya-hṛday'āśaya - what has my heart for its reservoir implies the speaker's life's blood, red like lacquer-dye, that martyrs offer to their homeland.

In the second caraṇam, the word vaitālika means a poet who marks all circadian and seasonal events, not only sunrise but sunset, moonrise, rainfall etc. Calling the motherland the one who dwells in their throats identifies her with inspiration (Sarasvatī) from the beauty of all times, while the birds flying in all directions represent diaspora around the world whose achievements bring glory to India.
