He is absolutely right. There was a time from early 2000s to early 2010s when Malayalam film industry saw the worst phase and the main reason was the increase of producers that have zero knowledge about film making and cinema. A lot of gulf based malayalees had too much money to spend and film industry is one of the best ways to convert black money into white money. Going by the status of Malayalam cinema it was the lowest the industry has ever witnessed. It didn't had any new young directors and the old good directors either died or stopped making films due to not getting producers to invest in quality content. Most producers only cared about making big bucks at the box office. But then a lot of young upcoming film makers entered and the new wave of Malayalam films started coming up that catered more to the young audiences and it brought back the youth back to theatres to watch Malayalam films. Nowadays almost all directors and top actors have their own production houses. So they barely compromise on content and quality.
