Welcome to the 9th clash of Women's Premier League as Gujarat Giants face Delhi Capitals Women at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai tonight. Delhi Capitals won their first two games of the tournament, but Mumbai Indians thumped them by 8 wickets with 5 overs to spare in the previous contest. On the other hand, Gujarat Lions who lost their first two games of the season, finally managed to open their account with a win against RCB Women as Dunkley and Harleen Deol chipped in with significant contributions. Shafali and Lanning have looked in solid touch for the Capitals, will they be able to shine again? We shall find out soon, stay around for the toss and teams..

A win for DC will take them closer to MI. A defeat, and they will be involved in a three-way tie on four points with the Giants and the UP Warriorz.

There have been four matches so far at the DY Patil Stadium, with the team batting first winning twice. In the last game, the ball stuck in the surface a touch and batting was not very easy in the first innings. Will that encourage the captain winning the toss to bowl first?

Both teams come into this contest having endured contrasting fortunes in their last fixture. The Capitals were handed a reality check by the Mumbai Indians, whereas the Giants overcame Royal Challengers Bangalore.

That sequence of results means that the Giants, if they were to win tonight, could go level with the Capitals on points. The Capitals would try and ensure that that does not happen, considering how strong they looked in their opening two games. Much of their success in those matches was founded upon their opening pair, which has not really fired and which might be tested against a relatively strong Gujarat bowling unit.

Speaking of the Giants, they have had to contend with an injury to their skipper Beth Mooney, who has since been ruled out of the competition. Luckily for them, Sophia Dunkley seems to have not missed a beat since being included in the eleven and laid the foundations for a vital win against RCB a few days ago.

Shikha Pandey: I think she (Lanning) has been very deceptive, I think she's a bowler's captain. I have been picking up her brain in terms of experience, she has shown a lot of faith in all the bowlers, happy to be playing under her. I am happy to bowl with the new ball, as a new ball bowler you can get swing, but I haven't been able to pick a lot of wickets. That's something on my to-do list, hopefully I start doing it soon. I know everyone in the Indian side, here the environment is different and relaxed. I want to learn as much as I can from others (overseas players), that's my priority. Trying to soak in the knowledge. I am blessed to be playing WPL, that's one thing WPL brings along. It was a minor glitch, hiccup in the last game. I haven't heard much of a banter between the English players and the Australian players, it's been good otherwise.

Pitch report: A brand new pitch with plenty of grass cover on it. This pitch might be similar to the ones used before. The pacers need to bowl proper lines on this surface. If you bowl short or overpitch, you'll be punished. 173 is the average score here.

Let's see what the conditions have in store for us. A fresh pitch for the game tonight, and there is a covering of grass. Relatively equidistant boundaries on both sides, and that could make things easier for the bowlers. The DC openers have been severe on short balls and on overpitched deliveries - something the Giants will have to keep in mind on this surface,

7pm It's time for the toss. Heads is the call from Lanning but it comes down as tails. The Giants will bat first.
