Thanks. For some reason, I thought it is related to King Prithu, and Goddes Earth is called Pruthvi because of him.

Many words for Earth refer to her qualities of thickness and firmness.

pṛthvī or pṛthivī - the expansive one

urvī - the thick one

mahī - the large one

medinī - the fat one

avani - the protective one

kṣiti - the supportive one

kṣamā - the capable one

dharā or dharaṇi or dharitrī - the bearing one

viśvaṃbharā - the one who carries everything

sarvaṃsahā - the one who endures everything

Even in Harivaṃśa chapter 5, before the myth of Pṛthu reaches the point at which Earth takes his name, anachronistically, Pṛthu's predecessor Vena speaks the word pṛthivī, the narrator refers to Earth as pṛthivī, and Pṛthu and Vena are called pārthiva and pṛthivīpāla - possessor/governor of pṛthivī - even by Earth herself!

The word kṣama/kṣamā has a spectrum of meanings in Saṃskṛta, of which capability and endurance are the interpretations that generally make sense in the context of choosing one's battles in Mahābhārata. In vernacular languages, kṣamā or khammā is now used in all sorts of peaceful situations, where it is appropriately translated as tolerance or forgiveness.
