Pawandeep's song on Musiq Pie, with Vipin Patwa as music director - the same person whose song was Babul, sung by Arunita.
Same theme, of a wedding. But this time from the father's perspective. The lyrics are extremely touching, especially when combined with the wedding visuals. Music arrangement is by Madhab Deka, who was also the arranger or Babul along with Pawandeep. So in keeping with the wedding theme, the music has the same feel as Babul. The shehnai, dholak, etc.
Pawandeep has brought in a lot of feeling into this song and has done a great job. The only thing that was a bit of a downer for me is that they have done some post processing to his voice. Along the spectrum of his own songs at one end and HR's songs at the other, this one has his voice towards HR's songs thought not all that bad.
All in all a great song.
Keh Do. Releasing on 3rd Feb. Pawandeep and Arunita, on Salim Sulaiman's Merchant Records.
Teaser of Keh Do by Pawandeep and Arunita. This is just too good! Really looking forward to this song!
Found Keh Do on YT Music. Unlike my usual detailed review, I am just going to say, "don't miss it!"
Keh Do by Arunita and Pawandeep...
I think my "Don't miss it" after listening to the audio is more than justified by the video! This one is so phenomenal!
First, Dal Lake - what can one say! One has to see it to believe it, and this video really captures the beauty very well.
The video itself. How well thought through and picturised. And the two protagonists! It almost feels as though the only instruction to them was "just be yourselves" - just like in O Saiyyonni! They really don't seem to be acting. Those smiles, those glances, those minor nuances of non-verbal communication - just perfect! And no physical contact, just like Wajah and Tere Naina. This latter fact is probably and important factor in making this so magical.
The music. Santoor has a place of prominence, and understandably so considering the location. And such a beautiful melody, doing justice to the beauty of Dal Lake.
The lyrics. Extremely simple, but yet poetic. The key word here is "simple" and not "simplistic" as some of the HR songs are.
The singing. This songs capitalizes on the strengths of both Arunita and Pawandeep, and the magic they create when they sing together. That is what makes this song extra special. Incidentally, considering relative weightages, I would say this is Arunita's song with Pawandeep playing a supporting role. And that is really refreshing, considering that BW music directors have a habit making the female singer a sideshow - even somebody as great at Shreya Ghoshal has suffered that fate some times. S
When all of this combines, you have a recipe for magic!
I said it once, I will say it again : Don't miss it!
