Did anyone here watch Oon Paus on Zee Marathi? I am re-watching it on Zee5 right now...It was a good serial overall until they messed up everything, in my opinion...

At one point, it is shown that the hero (Sagar) rapes the heroine (Mukta)..Then he is shown to repent it, help her get back to her original self, they fall in love and get married...now this used to be a common plot in those times, if the culprit repents and is ready to marry the victim, its all good...Thankfully, we, today, have (hopefully) evolved into a better society that doesn't take rape lightly and I am unable to digest how this was not just acceptable, but a leading popular serial at the time...I think with today's context, even the makers wouldn't take it so far to show that he raped her...maybe something milder but equally horrific- like Sagar sees someone teasing Mukta but ignores it bcz he is angry with her and then that person eventually rapes Mukta and Sagar comes to know of it..and he repents that he did not interfere when needed, that he could have stopped it from happening but didn't... would have been much logical and acceptable plot..

Anyway, I still miss old serials and the era of Sanjay Surkar, Smita Talwalkar, Pratima Kulkarni

Tried a few episodes, but storyline & overall execution didn't appeal to me much because of giving "rape" such an easy pass as a societal issue & character arc was undigested tbh.

Yes!! I just liked the lead pair (actors) and their chemistry...wish the story was better!

Yes I had watched this when it first aired on TV. I felt they didnt do proper justice to the whole rape story. They just brushed it under all is well that ends well. But the show is watchable for the actors alone. The leads had great chemistry. The title track is v good too.

Now thinking about it reminds me of a Turkish show Fatmagul. The stories arent similar except the heroine getting raped (here the hero doesnt rape her but watches his friends do it & doesnt stop them. The others flee & the villagers pressurize the hero to marry the girl). Adapted from a novel they had made some major changes to the novel while adapting it for TV, biggest being the hero did not rape her. It was a massive hit in Turkey & even in India when it aired on Zindagi channel where I watched it first before watching the original. They handled the rape trauma/ story quite well + all the actors were excellent

If you mean that there are no shows that cater to urban middle class sensiblites, then maybe to some extent you are right.

However there are still some shows that are geared towards the said class, like TTT or MTR ot that inlaw show, it is just that they are not clicking. I think Satish Rajwade is the main reason SP overtook ZM. He changed the combination of shows very frequently and now that he has cracked the code, he is sticking to it. ZM is trying to copy rajwade. He started TV shows that are specific to afternoon audience like Muramba and Now ZM is also coming up with afternoon slot I think. They are also starting more new shows.

Dont know. In fact ZM is going further down in TRP. I think 2-3 weeks back Colors Marathi had overtaken it to #2 position.
