Not always. The pitch deteriorates over 5 days and they must play on the same pitch for 5 days or until the end of the match. It can favour bowlers and they can get the batting team out before they make the required runs. It can be advantageous only under few circumstances.

Cheers..

Sorry guys for MIA. These days I am super busy with unexpected and unannounced guests arriving for holiday season 🤪 when I thought to spend peaceful holidays resting n cozying up in my home. ( Arctic blast brought cold winds 🥶 here..)

Take care of yourself Darshi. Come here when you get a break from your guests.

Into the weekend we go, so does this Test match where despite India's advantage both teams are in the running. The pitch is now slowing down but the sideways and up-and-down movement of the ball is increasing. The light has been reducing quickly in the evening but the days have been bright. But of course, it's the IPL auction that illuminated the consciousness of the cricket world in the last 24 hours, even reducing the post-day presser to six minutes. We have a lot to go through as we build up to Day 3. So join the ride.

Rishabh Pant: (On being asked if he was happy with his performance) As an individual, I was fine because I knew I was doing well. I thought I could capitalise but didn't because I missed the hundred. But Shreyas and I got the team out of trouble which was important. (On the 90s dismissals) It just happens, I don't think about landmarks. For me, having an impact and helping your team is what matters. If it (the hundred) happens, it happens, else it's not in your control. (On encouraging bowlers from behind the stumps) It has been very helpful for me, from behind I can assess the conditions. I have a lot of interest in doing it, it is part of my cricketing journey. (Is this pitch similar to that of Chattogram) This is slower but otherwise it is similar to Chattogram. (Could India have batted better) We can always bat a little better. We are in a slightly better position, depends on how well we bowl in the first session.

That was quite the insightful, self-aware interview from Pant. He came in a tough situation and shouldered heavy responsibility, which he has had to often in the recent past. It's helped him find a lot of success, does it put him in the conversation of the GWOAT? Sidharth Monga explores here. Sidharth also busied himself with the day's report, which can be found here. For Bangladesh, the fielding woes have been a major concern. They have missed 33 of 67 chances in this year. It cost them yesterday as they gave Iyer and Pant lives, which the batters capitalised on, to know about the details of the issues and the response of Bangladesh's fielding coach Shane McDermott, check out Mohammad Isam's piece here.

Apart from the Test, the IPL auction was in flow yesterday. As Saiful says, "Both Litton and Shakib are a lot richer today than yesterday with their KKR IPL auction results". To check out the entire squads, check out our auction page. For deets and snappy insights on how teams stack up, click here. And what were the biggest signings and what were the reactions? The weather is good, there's sunlight. The humidity is 70%, on the higher side. The players look fresh as they walk out to the middle.

Mustafa Moudi : "Fun Fact: This is a record year for India. They have played 71 International Matches and used a whopping 21 Opening Combinations (From 14 Players). Also they were led by 7 different Captains - Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan, Pant, Hardik, Bumrah and Rahul. Since this is the Last International Match for India there wont be any additional !!"

Varahan : "Day 3 of a test match is usually the best to bat. Bangladesh have a good chance to put India under pressure. It will not be easy to bat last on this pitch."

RajatMaheshwari: "I think India should start with Ashwin and Siraj at the other end! As the top 4 are left handers and these two have quite a bit of record against left handers! At the end of session, I think score will be 80 odd for 3/4 wickets!"

Appeal for LBW is turned down. Pant, Ashwin, and Rahul discuss. There's some nodding and India review.
