Bangladesh, again, found promise but couldn't close in enough to push the advantage. Mominul was great with the bat. Others got starts but couldn't build on. After the lower-order collapse of 5 for 14, Taskin found pace, and seam movement every now and again to challenge the batters. Shakib got Gill in trouble and deceived Rahul too. He will look to get purchase early on. But at this point, India are ahead.

Test cricket-th: "what was India's over rate today? Was it fine or are they dropping more WTC points?" It was good actually, close to if not touching 14 overs an hour.

Karthik : "Thinking aloud...When the lights fade and the floodlights come on, can't they try and continue with a pink ball instead of the red? Or are the play dynamics and ball behaviour so different?" The difference is quite big.

A good opening day for India as they managed to bowl out the opposition in less than three sessions. Electing to bat first, the Bangladesh openers couldn't give them a strong start, but as a result of a fine knock by Mominul on his Test comeback and few handy contributions by other batters, the hosts managed to finish with a respectable total. Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim played a few enterprising shots and tried to be aggressive, but they couldn't last long against the experience of Indian bowlers. Jaydev Unadkat bowled well on his comeback claiming a couple of wickets, while Umesh and Ashwin showed their experience as they bagged four wickets each. From 213/5 - Bangladesh collapsed and were eventually bundled for 227. In reply, the Indian openers had to survive a handful of overs, which Gill and Rahul eventually did. Rahul's stay was a nervy one where he survived a few close calls, but the Indian openers will look to be positive as they walk out to bat on Day 2. Will Bangladesh take a few early wickets and make this Test interesting, or will we see another solid performance from the Indian batters? Join us tomorrow for the coverage of Day 2 to find that out..

Umesh Yadav: There was a bit in it for the fast bowlers. Few balls were kicking up. It was important to keep bowling in the right areas and I tried to do the same. Dry grass is there and it's a bit spongy. We were trying to reverse the ball and bowl wicket-to-wicket, we got wickets because of that.
