Nahi it’s not orthodox or old fashioned it is actually being responsible. Bhagna is never good idea unless of course jaan le ban aaye incase of inter caste or inter religion marriages where Marne Maarne par utar aate hain ghar wale.

a daughter not being loyal to her parents how can she be loyal to her partner this idea I get this a lot. First things first parents child relationship does not require loyalty. Children are individual entity and entirely separate from parents. This is not a relationship which demands allegiance. It does demand love, honesty and support but by not caving in to your parents demands and ideology. An adult is free to build their lives the way they want with or without consent of their parents. The only caveat here is when a child chooses to go his or her way then he or she cannot expect support from parents either should something go wrong.

I also do not agree with waiting 10-15 years. Time is precious. Consenting adults can inform their dissenting parents of their decisions and get married legally in the court of law.
