It's not JUST about who she chose or whether she told them or not. It is the fact that she CHOSE is their also an issue. HP repeatedly said his beti would never do anything that would be frowned upon (or something to that effect). A girl stepping out and working is synonymous to ladki haath se nikal gayi samjho had been their attitude for a long time. A girl talking loudly or laughing loudly or showing her displeasure / anger is frowned upon. At least that is the impression I got when I watched Bimla and HP. Of course, these rules don't seem to apply to Goldie (or whatever her name is). ViDev's age issue was the last nail in the coffin.

Aaj first time dev ne apna card de diya , aur Vidhi ne Bina zizak ke le Liya..

Vidhi ke pass apni poori salary unused thi phir bhi...
