So well said. I am shocked at how many women like Karna and justify his calling Draupadi a prostitute and encouraging her disrobing by Duryodhan.

This also reminds me of some women fans of negative characters lile rapist rich brat Shaurya in Ek Hasina Thi and hoping female lead will change him through love or marry rape victim to rapist.

Some women also lapped up cheap films like Benaam Badshah and Raja ki aayegi Baraat in online fandoms which show heroine marrying and reforming her own rapist and rapist falling in love with woman he raped.

The films are toxic AF and sadder still is some female fans online glorifying these cheap characters or seeing it as power of love.

I loathe fan fiction some write claiming Draupadi secretly loved Karna! Disgusting.

I agree.

I remember my dada ji used to hate Amitabh films saying it glorifies violence and normalised use of cuss words like kutta kamina etc.

Now it is so normalised that even kids use these words and no one thinks it is gaali and since last 15 years BW and web series have promoted even worse maa ki bhen ki type words and innuendo or sexual slurs and women, youth etc are casually using this language.

Violence and misbehaviour is so normal that nowadays kids do fight and beat own parents or teachers too or feel vengeful and vindictive, modeling themselves after characters they see on TV or online.

Video games have also desensitized us towards violence.

There are dank memes and jokes on Aftab killing Shraddha and jokes on pieces of her body in fridge. I think making memes on serious crimes like these only shows how more dehumanizing and desensitization have been occurring steadily.

Socio-economic, Socio-political & Psycho-social issues are ALWAYS going to be COMPLEX.

Parents, Teachers, Counselors & Therapists are resources that CAN BE UTILIZED.

One can say that BOLLYWOOD'S just A MIRROR 👍🏼

There is something we have given is a brain to differentiate between right and wrong. We know violence in form on any gender is wrong, so when we see this in a movie we should learn not to do violence.

If some people can not differentiate, that means their brains do not function the right way, like the Shradda case that man is sociopath and a psychopath. No sane man would do what he did to that girl, learning from Dexter is just an excuse, these kind people are really good at deflecting.

I only saw few episodes of GOT, could not stomach the violence and other stuff shown in that drama.

Yes, movie makers have the responsibility of not glorifying violence especially on women, they should in fact show how a woman can defend and rise above the violence, that is by leaving those men.

There are signs of abusive men which all women should learn to diagnose and should never think (galatfemi) you can reform that man. No, these type of men never change and they get worse over the years.

The Shraddha case really makes me think.

Has media, films glorified too much toxicity?

Films like Kabir Singh show woman still in love with violent, abusive, druggie, hyper, possessive man who has no control over himself.

Do films brainwash young girls to see abuse as sign of love or hope her love will change the man for good someday?

Do films also give message to young men to be abusive or blackmail girls emotionally or play around with several girls and still be some cool hero? Or use abuse as way to control and tame the woman they like?

The killer Aftab in this case cited American TV series Dexter as his inspiration in disposing off the body, which makes me wonder if films and shows have desensitised us to violence and gore and give ideas to potential killers or anyone who is angry or jilted or takes things too personally?

I have seen how people love violent characters or often love villains or aggressive characters more than quiet ones (like Geeta character is admired more than Seeta in Seeta Aur Geeta and Amitabh in Deewar was admired more than Shashi). I do feel films and TV sort of glorify heightened expression of emotion and promote aggression.

What do you feel? Should filmmakers be more cautious of content they show? And its impact on masses? Instead of being in denial and showing anything in name of creative freedom?

1stly the killer cited 'dexter' as inspiration n Dexter is not bollywood movie. 2ndly watching something onscreen n experiencing it offscreen is very very different. Many people likes watching horror films but does they want to meet any ghost in reality? No. Many people including me enjoy watching thrilling scenes like ship sinking in Titanic or flood in kedarnath but obviously i don't want to experience it in reality nor do I want any1 to experience it. N i think hollywood, bollywood or any industry who shows these types of violence, only wants to entertain their viewers to earn money. There r many other movies in which hero is smart sensible n peaceful like same Kabir singh actor Shahid did roles like Aditya in jab we met, vivah, waah life ho to aisi etc. Much part of the Audience likes to see something which is different from their daily lives hence they watch violent series or movies. But some people who actually take inspiration from these series, they r at fault becoz they should understand that a fictional character's consequences depends upon writer's imagination but in reality, consequences of these crimes doesn't depend upon some1's imagination. N there r some novels also like that. So by this logic, no1 should show anything about crime becoz who knows if someone gets inspired by it

People watch TV, films since childhood. Brain is not fully developed to understand it is fiction or not to be emulated irl.

Human brain develops fully only by age of 25.

So we cannot say one can always use own sense.

If a 5 second ad can convince people to spend hard earned money and take decisions for own meals, health, finances etc then why can hours long films and tv shows or books or novels influence them?

I do think girls are brainwashed a LOT by media to think abusive man will change through love or that parents are villains and lovers will defy the world. Films like QSQT, Dil have glorified eloping and fleeing far from parents to be with lover. Painting family as pyar ke dushman.

Kabir Singh types glorify violent and druggie man also acceptable as lover.

Then we should tell our girls what we watch on tv is not true, not all abusive men change it really rare cases where we can be good influence to these type of men maybe 1%. I believe we can change habits but can not change what the nature has given to us.

That is why we are taught what is right and wrong, so parents are responsible to see the kind of people their kids hang out with and what they watch on tv now tablets.

Its just sad that in our society especially mother's who tell their daughter another women to bare.

Violence is a part of every human being getting expressed since very early age...but then also the wish for love and the ability to express love is a part of every human being...

So, what to do? Blaming isn't a solution. Visual consumption has increased hugely and the time to reflect about the manifold impressions has lessened.

Change only can come through how adults act towards/with (their) children, how they treat fellow human beings, how they (openly) reflect their own behaviour/feelings.

The world of imagination is formed through our senses and all the knowledge and observations we get through real life and basically it's a world without limits. So, again, it's a kind of educational work which has to be done because the challenge is to cope with the real world one encounters, not the reel world.
