yeah her pathetic dialogue delivery and horrible voice modulation always let her down as a performer but then again, deepika is also a bad actress on her own!

Alia's sort of plain & more Natural features, have a tendency to RE-FOCUS the viewers ... INTO THE CHARACTER

Alia is just alia in the character's costumes. Nothing wow about Deepika's performance either.

CHARACTERS in Gehraiyaan & Gangubai

Alia has a 'plain pretty look'. One shouldn't rest on the notion that she is less than beautiful. THIS LOOK ... helps to re-direct the viewer's attention on what the character being portrayed is trying to convey. i.e..less distractions for the viewer.

Deepika's beauty steals away what her character's trying to portray & purvey. Her beauty is more distracting for the viewer.

Overall as an actor & appeal, I find Deepika ahead of Alia. But in this particular scenario, Alia definitely did a better job. Gangubai was a tougher role to portray and she did it well.
