Hello Brother was released in 1999.
You can troll in my next year's thread 🤪, itni bhi kya jaldi hai 😆
Zakhm by a landslide.
My most watched film from that year is Dulhe raja, followed by Bade Miyan chhote Miyan. Total dhamaal by Govinda. I was a huge Govinda fan as a kid.
Now I realise how repetitive, cringe, sexist his comedies were but his onscreen energy, confidence and dance make him immensely watchable. No one has comic timing and dance skills, ability to perform with abandon like him.
Content wise it would be Zakhm and Satya. WHY IS SATYA NOT ON THE POLL?! Greatest gangster film ever made IMO. Great story, acting and music besides accurate portrayal of encounters and police, politician and gangster nexus.
Dushman totally traumatised me. Rana still gives me creeps thanks to Dushman and Sangharsh.
KKHH is something I am ashamed of liking as a kid. I did not like Ghulam but I think AK and Rani had a sizzling chemistry in it and looked actually in love. I have never seen Aamir gel so well with any other actress after Juhi as much as I see him gel well with Rani. He was fine with Kajol in Fanaa too but he literally sizzled with Rani in Ghulam.
I watched Soldier many times purely for Preity and liked her a lot. I liked Pyar kiya toh darna kya for Kajol's clumsy character and Ajay's character who suppresses his emotions and film has good music too. I loved Rani and Preity that year in their films and the year belonged to Kajol with great performances like Dushman and hits like Dushman, KKHH, PTHHT, PKTDK. I remember only she had all nominations for best actress that year.
I see Pyar Kiya toh darna kya purely for Salman and Arbaaz scenes in it which I find extremely funny. Arbaaz was good as the possessive bade bhaiya wary of the guy his sister chose.
The year had good music. I loved music of all films be it Ghulam, Dulhe raja, KKHH, Soldier, Pyar kiya toh Darna kya, Dushman, Dil Se and SATYA.
1998 was a good year for cinema IMO.
1947 Earth released in 1999 or 1998?
I think it is a 1999 film. Aamir was amazing in it and his transformation in last scene is his greatest moment as an actor in his whole career IMO.
Rahul Khanna was good for newcomer in it.
Major saab made joke of army. I am always amused why a major will train cadet to find his love. Deewana ban song by Amitabh to motivate Ajay makes me laugh.
I voted for pyar to hona hi tha, although the stupid me of that time liked KKHH too 😳😆

1999. I was actually going to list 1947: Earth too because I’ve been listening to Ruth Aa Gayi Re nonstop the last couple of days. But it didn’t release in 1998.
LMAO! Yes.
KKHH started craze for friendship bands and basketball in kids. I remember how many had enrolled to learn basketball after this film or got their own basketballs.
Schools had to ban kids from bringing too many friendship bands and tying bands or flaunting bands after this film.
They had tie up with Kelloggs then and packs of Chocos, Cornflakes had pics of SRK and Kajol in their college dresses and ran contest to meet them or win autographed merch from KKHH.
Rani got fame overnight as Khandala girl and Aati kya Khandala became a hit. Preity was also a rage for her cuteness, vivacity and dimpled cheeks.
Kajol lorded over everyone else with Dushman, KKHH, Pyar kiya toh darna kya and Pyar toh hona hi tha.
Aamir's lots of rings in all fingers of both hands and cap in Ghulam, SRK's Cool chain in KKHH had become popular with boys. So did Kajol's short hair and hair bands.
I remember I cut my Barbie doll's hair short as a kid to make her look like Kajol in KKHH. LMAO!
I miss surprise elements in that era. For eg NO ONE knew Salman was in KKHH. He was NOT there in any poster, cassette cover or pre release promotions. He just entered in Saajanji ghar aaye song out of nowhere and theatres exploded in cheers and whistles.
Nowadays there is no such surprise element in films. Audience mostly knows it all before they go to see a film.
Earth is the most haunting film I ever saw. I was so disturbed while watching it. Especially the scene when Lenny watches a man being ripped into half by a mob and recreates the scene by tearing her toy in same way.
Or the scene where Aamir sees bodies of his sisters and kin in train.
Films on partition always leave me gutted...
Making a separate post for this and asking again.
WHY IS SATYA NOT ON THE LIST IN POLL?
Sorry for all caps. But not including Satya in poll choices is blasphemy.
