This is one of my absolute favourites. I revisited this on Diwali Night when a 'showcase performance' showed up on my IG feed by a couple students.

I have re-played this 98323 at least since Monday lmao!

Can't help myself! ☺️❤️

Linking the performance down too cos Imma low-key sad that these songs don't get picked up by performers anymore because they're unsure about how the crowd would respond. 🥺

Song : Nigahein Milaane ko Jee chahta hai

Movie : Dil Hi Tho Hai (1963)

Lyricist : Sahir Ludhianvi (This Man I swear- was a magician)

Singer : Asha Bhosle

MD : Roshan

Agree agree agree 200% about Sahir! I’m such a fan ki I named one of my ancillary characters Sahir in my FF bcos his parents are SL fans & met at an SL convention (I don’t even know if this is a thing in India 😅)!

Also agree about these songs not being picked up for dance or singing performances anymore but idk if I’m sad about it. On the one hand, I want more people to learn & appreciate them (cos I do think their aficionados have dwindled to a paltry bunch - ab iss thread ko hee dekh lo 🥹) but on the other, I just want people to leave these classics alone - jinko appreciate karna ho woh og ko karenge! 😏

Sahir was Superior NGL.

His connection later on with another Poet (Amrita Pritam) only sparked another form of brilliance in him. I've been told about their story very recently, by my parents and it nothing but surprised me immensely.

I want people to appreciate OGs and listen to them more often, specially when they're sitting down their in the audience. It is really sad that as a performer I have to brainstorm more over the kind of song I should pick to gather a reaction from the crowd instead of building my act, lmao. As humorous as it sounds, it's utterly true. BUT - we should keep all the New Music Directors away from gems (created in any decade) so that they DO NOT TURN IT INTO A FREAKING REMIX OR as they say now - 2.0. GAG.

I guess that's the same reason why Sachin Tendulkar was named Sachin after the legendary Pancham da

Sahir is my absolute favourite lyricist/ poet!

My favourite is Vividh Bharati pe bhule bisre geet - subah subah hota hai some really underrated and unknown gems get discovered there 😳

The dance was beautifully choreographed and presented! The playfulness and wanting to be smitten in love was so cute! Also popat 🤣

You mean after Burmanda? Pancham ka naam toh Rahul tha 😳 Idk, I’ve stopped watching these singing reality shows. Earlier I used to watch kyunki kabhi kabhi contestants used to sing purane gaane & they would have interesting rounds like classical etc & sometimes even tributes to the Golden years’ MDs. Aajkal, like you say, wohi 4-5 gaane repeat hote hain & the others I don’t recognize so don’t enjoy them 😅! Aah Vividh Bharati! I miss Indian radio! Glad they still have Bhoole Bisre geet on in the mornings! My mornings would begin with that show on! Memories, sweet memories!
