Sodhi to Lahiru Kumara, OUT

Down the ground, goes for the big heave and gets nowhere near it. Easiest of stumpings completed, as New Zealand record a 65-run win!

Another thumping win for New Zealand, as they further augment their NRR while climbing back to the top of the table. This game ended as a contest within the powerplay, as some poor application from the Sri Lankan batters coupled with some smart bowling from the experienced duo of Southee and Boult helped turn the tide. Sri Lanka lost their top three within two overs, and were 5/3 at one stage.

Well, that's that and what started as quite a harrowing test of New Zealand's credentials has ended in a romp. Following on from Glenn Phillips' masterful century to help put up a competitive 167, Tim Southee and Trent Bould broke the back of the Lankan chase to reduce Sri Lanka to 8 for 4 inside the powerplay. There was the faintest of hopeful glimmers when Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa were at the crease, but the ask by that point seemed always beyond them.

Glenn Phillips | Player of the Match - My conversation (with Mitchell) was to carry on as long as possible, play the right possible shots, was a little difficult against the slower balls, but we managed to get to a competitive total. I couldn't put away the slower ones, but managed to execute my skills against the pacers, especially when pace was on. The bowlers did well later on. I did cramp up a bit, lack of salts possibly there, the boys asked me not to take any further risks on limping away). They swung the new ball (Boult and Southee), the slower ones were holding onto the surface, getting early wickets was crucial and we managed to do that early.
