Bas de Leede is the Player of the Match

A match that swung like a pendulum until the dying moments. Netherlands needlessly made life difficult for themselves, as Namibia sneaked into the contest.

What a game of cricket! Low-scoring thrillers are always that extra tense, and this was no different. Netherlands had no business dragging this so deep though, given the kind of start Vikramjit had given them in the powerplay. When you get a 50-plus team total in the first six overs in a 120ish chase, you shouldn't be getting it down to the final over. However, credit to Namibia as they gained their composure during the middle overs and the softer ball wasn't as easy to get away with the field spread. They kept chipping away at the wickets and towards the end, Netherlands self-destructed a bit in a bid to improve their net run rate. It nearly proved fatal but their hero was once again De Leede who came clutch under pressure, with good support from Tim Pringle. Namibia would rue their powerplay bowling to Vikramjit and of course, their batting plans earlier when they should have gotten another 15-20 runs.

The intrigue continues to build with every passing game in this World Cup and we have another big game on our hands here this evening. A drubbing at the hands of Namibia in their opening match has left Sri Lanka in a very precarious position in Group A. Not only is the focus on winning now, it is on improving a severely damaged Net Run Rate for the Asia Cup champions. But in the UAE, they've got an opposition that's going to fight till the end as they showed against Netherlands the other day, taking the game right till the last over defending just 111.
