SLW 105/7 (20)

MLYW 33 (9.5)

Sri Lanka Women won by 72 runs

That's a clinical bowling performance by Sri Lanka, not so - by Malaysia. It was a decent effort by them to restrict Sri Lanka to a mediocre total of 105/7 earlier in the day, but their batters didn't show up at all. The Sri Lankan spinners were simply unplayable as they made the ball talk. Malaysian batters, apart from Hunter couldn't even get into double digits, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals right throughout the innings. Sugandika Kumari started it, and the rest of the bowlers complemented her. Inoka Ranaweera claimed a couple of wickets and Malsha Shehani wrapped up the tail with her four-wicket haul. In fact, Shehani also got the big wicket of Elsa Hunter, and she'll be satisfied with her bowling effort.

What a short game of cricket. Both team's batting was disappointing.

Winifred Duraisingam | Malaysia captain: I think the girls bowled and fielded well, but we failed with our batting today. It was our game, but we threw it away. All the batters were not taking their time, they were all rushing. We are lacking playing against good bowlers like these. We see a lot of variations at this level.

Athapaththu | SL captain: I am not happy about our batting performance today. Today we lost a couple of wickets early, and we struggled today. We need to improve our batting. These wickets are really slow and low. As batters we need to be positive. The game started early, so it was difficult to bat. There was moisture, so we had to adjust, but we couldn't do it. We need a good net run rate, I trust our batters, but today they were not up to it.

Malsha Shehani | Player of the Match: Really happy about my performance as a new comer. The wicket was good for the spinners, and she got wickets against the right-handers. I bowled according to my plan. (Translated from Sinhalese)

That's a wrap to today's first encounter. Sri Lanka registered a comfortable win despite not showing up with the bat, but they'll be pretty happy with their bowling performance.
