Both are actually very different films from one another, but they are always compared because they came out within a gap of 1 year and took the nation by storm, EQUALLY.

I'll try to share my 'objective' POV on both films.😆

HAHK

• Pros:
  Brought back the family audiences to the theater in 1994. Otherwise, early 90s were full of mediocre, 80s style commercial potboilers, with very few wholesome movies in-between.
• Portrayed men as gentlemen and NOT as molestors, a**holes or rapists, unlike several flicks from that time.
• More wholesome and feel-good "family" flick, than DDLJ.
• Has more interesting and entertaining characters, than DDLJ.
• Stamped Madhuri's career with superstardom.
  
• Cons:
• Far away from reality. It Takes you in a different world (that actually can't exist).
• A remake of Rajshri's own Nadiyan Ke Paar which more authentic
• Only 2-3 songs that are NOT shaadi songs.
• Weak climax. A dog saves the day? What if the dog didn't go to Rajesh? Nadiyan Ke Paar had better climax.
  

DDLJ

• Pros:
• A trendsetter for romance genre.
• Made Switzerland/Europe/outdoor shoots common in BW films that followed, thus more effective.
  
• An original story.
• More known and recognized world-wide than HAHK.
• Better songs than HAHK. (Some are the best songs of all time)
• Established SRK as the "Romance King".
  
• Cons:
• Female character falls in love with the guy, outta nowhere (at least for me).
• Problematic behavior of male lead in the first-half.
  
• Plot-hole: Raj-Simran are caught when their photograph is discovered by Simran's father, but what if that didn't happen? What was Raj-Simran's original plan?
  
  

Lol. It is STILL very difficult to choose. Every 90s kid has watched both these films growing up. They are our childhood.

If India had a National Film Registry for culturally significant films, both films would surely be in it.

The chemistry

DDLJ because HAHK is more of a shaadi ka video than a movie

I watched HAHk or portions of HAHk millions of times, can’t say the same about DDLJ, so HAHK for me

HAHK was good only till Pooja's death. After her death the movie became highly depressing.

DDLJ was overall entertaining movie from the beginning to end.
