I'm mostly surprised by Mumbai's reception to the film. The city used to be one of the biggest centres for Bollywood films but while seats are sold out in the North, it's not the same in Mumbai. Most peculiar is that the seats are only turning yellow on the particular day of the show and not beforehand signalling a drop in advanced bookings. Like if you check the booking status today in Mumbai it's all yellow but change it to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and it's all green and completely empty. Even the whole ' PVR opening shows at midnight' they promoted in Mumbai didn't work because all the theatres for the 2:30 midnight shows were empty yesterday so they stopped those shows as well from tomorrow.

So, I finally watched it. Yeah!!!!! God, I have waited so long for this movie to release. 😆

And I liked it. I mean it's not the greatest movie ever made. But it is still nice.

It does the job of introducing the audience to this new world of astral These are the characters. These are the stakes. etc

I get the dialogue criticism. They need to do a better job

Also, the character's arc needs work. Shiva was the only character I cared about by the end of it.

The actors have done a nice job. Shah was charming. Ranbir was sincere. Nag elevated the little role he had. Big B was powerful and Mouni was convincing.

Alia did the best she could with what she got. But this is by far her best look. She looked beautiful.

I think part 2 would do a better job of fleshing out characters.

I hope it passes the Monday test. The possibility with this Astraverse is endless

Not only they can make more movies. But TV shows, web series, and even novels\

I went to watch the movie yesterday with my cousins and the theatre we went into was running houseful.

The cons are many. I wish Nagarjuna had a little more screen space. I wished they showed the relationship (romantic or otherwise) between Amitabh Bachhan and the popular actress whose role was simply limited to flying helicopter twice. There was no substance or convincing backdrop to Shiva and Isha's love story, neither did it had the intensity expected of symbolic connection between Shiv- Shakti. For the same matter, perhaps, their story seemed like a drag, although it had so much meaning towards the final. I wish Ranbir was more intense in some of the crucial junctures like him realizing the truth about his parents. And for the first time I found Alia's role was dragged and stretched, and Alia was strictly mediocre. I wish Ayan had spent more time on storytelling. Sad that Pritam could not recreate his former musical caliber with this one. I was expecting better mentor - mentor dynamics between Shiva and Guruji, but alas. Amitji was great but I still felt something was off about the way his character was etched out. Want to add some more, but shall refrain lest might end up giving spoilers.

Now coming to good, the VFX is the winner definitely. Mouni steals the thunder. The actors playing her aides are as good in their roles. Other characters (those who help Shiva,) are good in their respective but small roles and the little boy is a pleasant surprise in his limited role. The second best thing after the VFX SRK's role - cameo yet impactful. And the intrigue surrounding Dev and Amrita - definitely worth looking forward to the sequel.

Big thanks to Ayan for having a faith and rightly so on Mouni. It is good to see that she had even got the necessary screen space. I hope he continues with good actors riding above labels of "listers", if ever a sequel is made because it is obvious that both Dev and Amrita would be strong and fierce in their individuality and in union. It would call for strong actors, way above the league of current Bollywood incumbency. Hope he takes the risk if need be as he had done with Mouni in part One.

For movie riding on such a high budget with time value adjustment of the initial investment, it would be a great feat if the film breaks even. Since reviews are like the mixed bag, I don't know what to predict of the movie except wishing good to the entire team

P.S : Hope Tenjing is their in the sequel too.. The potential and possibility of Astraverse is endless but good actors and better storytelling would be the sine-qua-non for the success. Hope KJo won't shove down his below par nepotistic brigade down the line..
