rather than any mental health issues, just think shamsher is one of those people who has been spoiled rotten to the core and not brought up the right way. he says that he can't bear to hear the word 'no' and goes mental. how absurd is that? life is going to give you twists and turns that are unexpected. things will never go your way all the time. however, he has been brought up to believe that it is his right that everything in life bows down to his whims and fancies.
for all his talk about love, it makes me wonder whether he is truly in love with mehak or if he just wants to possess her because she rejected him. will he be as interested in her if she caved and accepted his touches? his family expects him to lose interest in her very quickly -- why? because they think once his lust is quenched, he will get over this and move on to the next object of his interest whatever that is -- a living person or something like a car. basically he is bored in life with no aim and direction and brought up to believe that he can have what he wants. so when he doesn't get it, he reacts super negatively. how bizarre is that? that is just spoiled rotten.
if he has to change, he has to be brought down to earth where he realizes that people outside of him have feelings and thoughts and they matter. he actually has to understand how he hurt others and for that, he has to listen to what they are saying. he has to realize that he harmed the woman he loves and there are consequences to actions. this means he has to lose mehak in some form (will she die?) and he has to realize that he was the storm that caused all this. his heart needs to break into a million pieces from guilt and hurt and the realization that he is the one responsible for the mess. basically a huge reality check where things do not go his way and he realizing that he can't have it all just because he demands it. will that happen though or will we get some cliched ending?
I think you have pretty much said it all. From the time the shooting of this show started and whatever bts we have followed since then, this is exactly what we have perceived as well especially about what you have said about Shamsher being spoiled rotten.
When i see Shamsher and his behaviour. There are two things that come to my mind.
1) He has been spoiled rotten. Both the parents are responsible for that. Their upbringing is questionable. In the initial episodes, Atiqa's character would keep repeating every now and then, everytime he would do something wrong and Dilawar would get angry, that "bachha hai, samajh jayega, thoda time de, main samjha dungi". You will get an idea of how his childhood must have been. Shamsher would do something wrong, and his mother instead of correcting him or scolding him would pamper him and shield him. Dara too has mentioned how like everytime we have saved him and shielded him in situations.. is baar bhi karlenge. He is often heard telling Dilawar "il handle, babasaab".. Remember his scene in the first episode.. Jab Shamsher nashe mein dhudh hokar ghar aata hai and he is like "acha lagta hai kya yeh sab, ghar par ammi hai, bhabhi hai". And then Babasaab himself, from the very first episode its been established that he has no moral compass, he is into all sorts of crimes and uses his power and money to get exactly what he wants. He even tells Atiqa that she knows him very well and that if he wants woh kisi ka bhi wajood gayab kar sakte hai. The night before the wedding was to take place originally, you see the police and sheru (criminal) walking out of their house. This means Baba saab has all types of people under him. Toh yeh woh ghar hai jis mein aise logo ka aana jaana laga rehta hai. And Shamsher greets both of them, like as if he is used to seeing them often. So you can imagine the mahol of this house and the people. Especially on someone who is spoilt rotten agar uske saamne yeh sab bachpan se ho raha hai toh what kind of a person he is going to become. He naturally assumes everything can be under his control and he can get whatever he wants. Upar se he is the favoured child. Every member of the house keeps repeating that all his wishes have been fulfilled everytime he has had one but yeh jo mehak wali zidd hai woh chod de.
2) He definitely has some disorder : Danish too felt this while he was reading the script. The way Shamsher reacts in so many situations is very abnormal. He obviously has some deep rooted anger issues. The way he flips is so unpredictable. And he is delusional to the next level. He is super complex. He needs professional help and for the most part a reality check.
Shamsher's love for Mehak is very complex to talk about.
It was a love at first sight for him. He fell for her beauty and the innocence that he saw in her. Mehak is not like the usual girls from his circle who are probably sophisticated and chalak, like sophia and the others. He would have been a F boy for all we know. Then came the contrast in his life, that instantly attracted him. Beauty and innocence. Shamsher is an extreme personality and he works in extreme ways. After that, He wanted her to be part of his life forever by hook or crook. Iska junoon already set hogaya tha ab tak. But the catch here is he persued directly for a nikah. He goes to her house the next day with a proposal to marry her (Its a proposal in his head). Otherwise the F boy that he is, he could have just tried to meet her at the university and you know chedo her and do all of that make her his girlfriend till he gets what he wants. But nai, he was in it for the long term and wanted her to come into his life through something pure like nikah. But ofcourse whatever he did to get her to marry him was all criminal. But He doesn't see it like that, cuz all those crimes dont mean shit to him and knows no one can do anything about it. In his delusional head he just loved her, wanted her to come to his life through an izzatdaar way like nikah and they just live together forever..
At the same time he does lust after her.. the first episode when he plays the viral video of hers and watches her.. the first night face touching scene and the first morning the way he sees her. Thats lust.
The kind of person Shamsher is 1) spoiled rotten 2) has some disorder .. he thinks he doesn't have to put the effort to love and respect her to get her into his life cuz he things he can get her cuz of the power and influence he feels over everyone else. He knew that she hates him and that the whole fam was not interested in this alliance but he says.. agar woh pasand nai karti toh main us se phir bhi pyaar karwa lunga.. He has everyone from his social circle throwing themselves at him, like sophia, so he thinks nobody would not want him. Bas ek baar shaadi hojaye, Mehak would have no where to go back to and she would fall for him eventually cuz he is her shohar after all. His love is unhealthy and very twisted.
Now that he has married her, he wants her to love him back, he is selfish like that. But no he wouldn't force himself on her. Cuz he is delusional and thinks he loves her and he has done nothing wrong. So mehak too will reciprocate soon and ofcourse he could wait for her and she could take her time. He is just happy that she is in his life now and ab koi usko us se door nahi kar sakta. He thinks woh us se mohabbat toh karta hai, but i think when he goes and gets Redeemed to an extent in the future he will realise to what extent he actually loves her. Yeh isko khud bhi nai pata hai abhi toh. Cuz when that happens his selfish love will turn selfless. And he will realise he doesn't deserve mehak and that mehak ki bhalai isi mein hai ki he stays away from her.
For Shamsher, mehak is a complete contrast to his very evil world. Maybe unconsciously he wants to hang on to her and get away from this. He has told that he doesn't like the doghlapan of this house and he doesn't like babasaab and his ways. He doesn't really care about his very rich lifestyle, he was ready to leave it for Mehak. The family members still think mehak is only a zidd for him. But this time its different, thats where they have got it all wrong. He does feel that they dont really understand the real him and the mohabbat he has for Mehak.
Will Shamsher get redeemed? If yes, to what extent is the question. I think the upcoming track is gonna focus on that. Dilawar will probably throw these two out of the house or Shamsher gets to know that Babasaab was the one behind Mehak's accident and leaves with her. These two will go away and try to build their life from scratch cuz obviously shamsher no longer has the name and support on which he so far led his life. This means he will be exposed to the world and its struggles especially that of a common man and what all they go through at the hands of the powerful and influential. I hope his redemption comes along those lines. Shamsher should go through whatever he himself has done with Mehak and her fam and be in the same or similar position to understand their plight. At the same time dilwar will be making sure to make their life hell so that he gets forced into leaving Mehak. Dilawar may at the same time be plotting something big against Mehak time and again, and Shamsher will realise that he is responsible for all of this and the life that has become for her. He cannot even protect or provide her with anything basic. The realisation will come around then. Its the journey of hardships that he will face as a common man and what ever baba saab is doing to eliminate Mehak from his life that will bring about a change in him. But yes, i think he will fight back for Mehak against baba saab with all that he has. I hope its gonna be an epic showdown. It would be a treat to watch Danish and naumaan Ejaz in something like that. We have already seen hints of the father and son blowing hot and cold with each other. Anyway, This is just an assumption based on the curent circumstances and how the story has proceeded till now. Lets see, how the makers have planned. It all boils down to the execution.
