The main reason this was such a problematic thing to say is because Alia has admitted to having body image issues and even needing therapy for it. There’s no way Ranbir is not aware of his own wife’s insecurities about her body and weight, and yet he still thought it was funny and amusing to make a joke at her expense.

It’s not that unusual for women to become insecure of their bodies during pregnancy even without any other prior body image issues. On top of that all the hormonal changes a woman goes through during pregnancy, the mood swings, the emotional ups and downs. It would be idiotic in the best of circumstances and in private for a husband to make jokes about her weight. Ranbir did it on a public platform to his wife who has body image issues.

As for Ranbir and Vaani, I think Vaani might have said something in private about not being invited but Ranbir brought it up during an interview how Vaani was asking why she wasn’t invited. So Vaani just laughed it off. It looked awkward and uncomfortable.
