Poor girl. She tried her best to live up to her father's memory by saving the shop.

What just happened? That came out of nowhere. Marriage, just like that.

He has been watching her all this time. Her fiery streak impressed him along the way. Enough to make that offer spill out of his mouth.

He just dropped a bomb and she is not thinking- it didn’t hit her yet 😊. She wants to preserve her dads legacy in whatever way.

"Book" a wedding

“Should we get married now? Or wait until the morning?” she asked unperturbed

His heart rate soared at that absolute conviction

“It’s a yes?”

“I have to call my Mum,” she nodded

“Morning’s good” he nodded, hands in his pockets, rocking on the balls of his feet

Her cheeks were flushed dark red in the cold, her just cried eyes, large sparkling orbs, the tip of her nose, bright shiny red.

He saw a pulse hammer between her collarbone.

“K” he began to turn around to walk away

“Can we draft the papers to say this will remain with my Mum?”

Boy!! She never lost sight of her goal. She wanted the store, she was going to save it from demolition, and she wasn’t going to let her own stupid marriage come in the way

“You want to do it now?” he asked calmly

He was weak in his knees, his mouth was dry, his face flush with excitement, and the woman who had agreed to marry him wanted papers to her family owned store

“Let me grab my laptop” he nodded

She walked back into the store, unlocked the back office door, and pulled out the chairs, hit the fan, and then turned it off when she started to shiver

She heard footsteps and ran out afraid it was an intruder, her eyes relayed her fear to him

She quickly turned around and went in

Grabbed the keys and locked the front accordion gates and glass door

He let the laptop case strap slide off his shoulder

He wore a dark orange sweater over blue jeans, a pale shirt’s collar sat over the v neck

“I don’t have any draft or template”

“I can call Parashar and ask for one”

They spent the next two hours, going over every word with a stunned Parshar on Zoom

“There has to be witnesses, it cannot be recorded otherwise, in any legal way”

“Oh? Harkeerat Uncle was supposed to be here”

“Parashar can u make it?”

“Umm.. sure”

Around 4 AM… with a even more dazed Harkeerat and Kareem Seth staring down a cool as a cucumber Pradyut, a looong statement was signed on

They would be married first thing tomorrow at a Gurudwara or Arya Samaj Mandir

The store would be hers starting tomorrow, she had to transfer it to Nidhi Bhushan

She did not dare call her mother in the middle of the night to tell her she was marrying the buyer/builder of Zenith Astro

Harkeerat was livid he made no small talk, he wanted to wring Taruni’s neck

He kept his cool until Parashar and Pradyut left around 5 AM

He yelled at her for an hour straight

He had a million questions, he warned her Pradyut could be a dangerous man who could just kill her off, he brought up news articles of wealthy people abusing and murdering unsuspecting love sick women

She had no answers

She knew the store was gone at 10 AM when the judge showed up in court

She told Harkeerat, she agreed to marry him just so she would get the store back

“Its not a matter of buying the whole plot beta… it will cost you Rs.30 crores, it’s a matter of finding the conveyance deed”

“Yes marrying him will allow me to find it”

“HOW?” he stared at her like she had truly lost her mind

“Papa to jhooth nahi bolenge na?”

“Who baat theek hai, par HAI kaha? Na fotocopy hai na original, kuch ata pata nahi”

“That’s OK I will find it”

“You are going to go LIVE in his house?”

“Umm.. sure” she shrugged casually, uncaringly “main to US jaake rehne waali thi, I can live in a stranger’s house”

“You DON’T KNOW these people”

“I doubt he cares, I don’t… I just want to save the store” she looked faraway with vicious purpose

“Ma ko kya kahogey?”

“Pata Nahi” she whimpered with tears clouding her eyes

“Main Sukhdeep ko call karta hoon, 8 baje milna haiga Gurudware mein?”

She nodded

She felt empty and broken

She was reeling from her breakup on top of losing her Dad and her US Grad school prospect turning into vapor.

She was now going to marry a stranger

“Papa kabhi agree nahi karte” Harkeerat walked out sadly

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She gathered her uneaten dinner and drove home
Her mother was schoked to see her before 6 AM
She took her to the terrace and blurted she was marrying the invader
Nidhi almost fainted
Taruni checked her BP and and heart rate, and apologized between tears
“Your Papa knows you love him”
“NO he doesn’t” she shouted
Tushar was more shocked, Pallavi overheard as she was making chai and dropped a cup
Ran out to hug Taruni
“Pagal ho tum?” she whispered crying on Taruni’s shoulder
They all sat around and worried in fear as to how to tell Gaurav
And grandparents and relatives
They decided to tell no one.
Pradyut texted her at 7 AM
“Which Gurudwara?”
Her heart sank
“Are you bringing Parashar? I am bringing Kareem (Seth) Uncle” was her counter
“Hes already in the area”
Her heart sank further
Her mother was going through her closets and her own, after much rummaging, a fuchsia pink salwar kurta with heavy phulkari embroidery was selected. Her Dadi had brought the material with her last year, Taruni never wore it
As if her Dad approved, her Mom’s shaadi ka dupatta was the exact same pink but with a heavy heavy gold poufy trim
Pallavi decked her with her jewelry
Tushar waited outside a chooda store in old market, asked around woke the owner and bought three sets, and kalera
Subodh Sukhdeep and Harkeerat bought the rest
They arrived at the Gurudwara Nanaksar
The lawyer his parents and sister and hubby were the only ones who had flown private from Delhi at 4 AM
The families were in shock… Nidhi smiled nervously and reached for Sumedha Munjal.
“Mubarak ho” she whispered nervously
“Kitni sundar hai meri bahu” Sumedha whispered hugging her warmly
