There is a Hawaiian independence movement but it doesn't get that much of coverage in the mainstream media. Hawaii is also heavily gentrified with rich American people buying property in Hawaii and settling in there so yes they aren't exactly the same . US provoking them will only give China more excuse to attack Taiwan like Putin did it to attack Ukraine.
