He does care for but knows his boundaries very well. At this moment he is probably least interested in getting married much less to Preeta. It might not be even Karan’s kid. Maybe Preeta adopts a kid you never know.

Are they even planning to get Shrishmeer married at some point in the show?

Karan actually sounded very reasonable in demanding time from her for their relationship. He rightly pointed out she has time for everyone in the family but him.

He asks her where she went, Preeta still doesn’t say anything. Thinking he will mess up everything.

Preeta underestimates Rishabh and Karan bond and Karan would never do anything which will harm Rishabh. Edit: He gives her an ultimatum that he can’t waste his life on her anymore. She has to prioritise their relationship. Natasha has meanwhile convinced Karan for the fake marriage. Preeta doesn’t believe he will go through with it and leaves for Dubai.
