Two points on yesterday's IPL Finals ..
1. Why did Sanju choose to bat first despite winning toss?... RR had won previous match against RCB comfortably batting second ... Plus the ball swings much more for the team batting first ... Anyways this decision was quite perplexing ..
2. Data and stats show that no team which has beaten RCB in the playoffs has gone on to win the finals !!!2010, 2015 ,2020 ,2021 check out the teams which have defeated RCB .... You will find none have won the title in Finals😀
The second point must be true i haven't analyzed or noticed but one day it will be broken. Like Gavaskar always said in WC finals team batting second will always loose as history goes because there will be too much pressure on them, team batting on their home pitch will never win the title. This was true till Sri Lanka proved them wrong in 1996 world cup and later even India won it on home soil batting second in 2011. So i think these are kind of myths. Regarding first point - everything seems suspicious. Hetmyer laughed loudly everytime he misfielded, including a dropped catch. In 1996 WC semis the pitch at Eden garden in second half when India was batting suddenly became unplayable and there was unexpected turn ... Hence you see players like Azhar jadeja mongia fell like 9 pins ....IMHO decision to bowl first was incorrect.
Vis a vis in 2011 MSD read the pitch correctly and opted to bowl first .... The pitch had eased out by the time yuvvi and MSD came to bat . Thanks to Gautam who held the fort .....At the same time you see at wankhede 9 times out of 10 the side which bats second always wins ....
Nobody can beat India on a flat pitch 😀And overseas you don't get a flat pitch ....
