this is how I interpreted that scene: abhi would always have been the choice. For me, there was no question about it. These both have come so far that neither can imagine their life without each other. So the choice- shadi without ar or zindagi without abhi- was always going to be abhi. What took so much time for ak was her hesitation to let go of arohi. She was not willing to go through the process of choosing if she could avoid it.she has chosen abhi from heart,she loves him but she didn't chose abhi on that day if u see clearly..... it's when swarna said that abhi might forgive arohi once he calms down,that's what propelled her to do that......uske pehle she was unable to choose,correct me if I am wrong here
