I'm not sure if that's the reason, I think rk and alia chose to have a small wedding, even when rishi was alive he said he wanted to invite lots of people but rk and alia only wanted 30-40 people at their wedding, so even when rishi was alive they wanted to keep things simple and small

Maybe its easier not to have a reception and the hassle of inviting so many people

With vicky katrina it's was because of omicron probably.

With Ranbir Alia I think Ranbir is introvertish and didn't want a big wedding. There was an interview with Rishi Kapoor few years back where he said Ranbir is a private person.
