I’ve had a bad few days and ended up binge watching this drama as a distraction, lol. It’s an excellent concept, the actors are all nailing their roles (really surprised about Hadiqa) and the writing is good (it could be better).
Mehrunissa and Mahir actually make a good couple. They elevate each other by compensating for one another’s insecurities. Mehrunissa was essentially a child bride, married off to a man who was old enough to be her father and thus there was a power imbalance in the relationship, compounded by her husbands controlling behaviour. With Mahir she gets to live without inhibitions. He gives her the space and freedom to be herself whilst encouraging her to be unafraid to disregard societal expectations.
Mahir was a neglected child, abandon by his mother and father and constantly put down as being ‘good for nothing’. None of the adults in his life believed he could succeed, or even live honestly. He kind of became a self fulfilling prophecy. Then he met Mehrunissa, who was simply grateful to have found someone who seems to respect her authentic self, and supports her in pursuing her goals and desires. Because of this, her initial opinion of Mahir was positive and as their relationship developed her opinion of him continued to improve. Mahir latched onto the fact that finally there’s someone who believes he is good and can achieve something.
They really compliment one another. That’s why I don’t think `Mahir is going to cheat Mehrunissa. I think he’s developed genuine feelings for her and loves her.
The only thing I find weird is Mahir constantly referring to Mehrunissa’s kids as ‘humare bacchae’.They’re not your kids Mahir, they had a father and no one can take his place. It has nothing to do with age, even if he was the same age as Mehrunissa it would be out of line to insist you are now your wife’s grown children’s dad. I have a feeling he’s doing it wind them up.
