Chapter 3 is here! It’s a bit shorter than usual, mostly because life has been getting in the way. We’re getting into it now! As some of you have pointed out, this story is super light; there are no negative characters and there won’t be too much conflict. The only conflict we’ll see is Meet A and Meet H’s banter. Speaking of which, going forward, how would you guys like me to differentiate between the two Meets (Meet A and Meet H, or Meetwa and Meety or something else)?

Chapter 3
“Bhai, tu itna kaam kyun karta hai?”, Kunal grumbled.
Meet rolled his eyes at his cousin’s statement. Kunal might have been a year older than him, but sometimes he behaved like Meet’s younger brother.
“You know I’m getting married in 2 weeks and you still haven’t met Manushi” he continued.
“I know bhai, but kya karta. Last minute par conference call aa gaya and I had to stay in the office…” Meet explained.
Kunal shook his head.
“I swear, tujh mein aur Manushi ki behen mein koi farak nahi hai. Vo bhi hamesha kaam par hoti hai. Twice we’ve been to their house, and both times I haven’t been able to meet my saali!” he stated.
“Manushi ki behen hai?” Meet asked.
“Haan, uski choti behen hai, lekin apparently bilkul uske bhai jaisi hai… as in, tomboy hai aur ghar ki poori responsibility uss par hai… I guess, that’s why she works hard” Kunal explained.
Meet could tell from his tone that his brother was quite impressed with Manushi’s younger sister even though he hadn’t met her yet. Promising his brother that he would make sure to meet Manushi soon, Meet made his way out of the house. Just as he was getting into his car, he noticed the little bump on his bonnet from the day he had gotten into the accident.
Who WAS that girl, he found himself thinking for the 100th time since that day. He shook his head to clear his thoughts and made his way to the bank to pick up his father. Rajvardhan had given him very clear and specific instructions; come alone and be there at noon sharp. If there was one thing Meet knew about his father, was that he was very particular about punctuality.
Sharp at noon, Meet pulled into the parking lot of the bank and waited. 30 seconds later, he saw something move in his peripheral vision. He turned his head to see Rajvardhan walking out the doors, but he was being supported by a very familiar figure; it was the same girl he had been trying hard not to think about.
Meet immediately rushed out of the car to help his father and took over for her.
“Kya hua dad? Aap theek toh hain?” he asked concerned.
Rajvardhan nodded as if to brush his question off.
“Haan haan, aisa kuch nahi hua….” He started but was immediately cut off.
“Arey aise kaise kuch nahi… chakkar aa gaye the inhein….” The girl explained.
The horror on Meet’s face must have been evident because she immediately started reassuring him.
“Arey na… tension ki baat na hai, shayad blood pressure low ho gaya tha uncleji ka. Par ab theek hain, kuch na hoge inhe” she said.
The rational part of Meet’s brain was still worried about his dad, but a much smaller part of his brain had noticed how her voice had softened while reassuring him, how her hand gestures had tried to convey that there was truly nothing to worry about.
Before Meet could say anything in response (he really wanted to thank her), Rajvardhan spoke up.
“Thank you, beta, tumne sambhal liye mujhe” he said.
All she did was smile in response and shake her head.
“Khush raho…” Rajvardhan said as he raised his hand to her head to bless her.
“Tumhara naam kya hai beta?” he asked.
She smiled and said the most amazing words Meet had ever heard.
“Uncleji, mera naam Meet hai…”
Rajvardhan couldn’t help but laugh softly. Meet, on the other hand, was in complete shock; this was too much of a coincidence.
“Yeh toh ajeeb itefaaq ho gaya. Mere bete ka naam bhi Meet hai” he said gesturing towards Meet.
She turned to look at Meet with her eyebrows raised, waiting for him to confirm this. He gave her a small nod in response, making sure that Rajvardhan didn’t notice.
“Kamaal hai. Lagta hai mere papa aur apki soch milti hogi” she said.
Before the father-son duo could respond, she said something about being late for work and walked away hastily after a quick goodbye.
A few seconds after she was out of sight, Meet managed to snap out of his stupor and ushered his dad to the car.
The drive home was one Meet did not remember. Because all he could think about was her…Meet. She had the same name as him; how often did that happen to people? What is it about this girl, he thought to himself. I’ve seen her twice and both times have been eventful. Pata nahi humara future mein kya hoga, he thought without realizing that for the first time in his life, he was thinking about a future with someone, even though he had just met her.
