He is definitely NOT wrong in not wanting his granddaughter to marry Abhi. From his POV, Abhi might be good guy but the family where Akshara is going to go - he doesn't trust them. After all, they hid the existence of their daughter all these years. They were about to get their son married to Manish's granddaughter without even mentioning Anisha. That's what stunned Manish when Anisha introduced herself. He even said na, Birlas apne beti ko bhi chupaate hain, yeh pata nahi tha - to Harsh. So he sees the nature of Birlas and feels Akshara won't be valued there.

The way he went about it is wrong but his thought process is absolutely correct. It's what any parent would think on.
