Chapter 14

Abhimanyu checked on all his admitted patients and went to his cabin for a break. Seeing his cabin empty, he let out a sigh and went to sit on his couch. He had an exhausting night with two back to back surgeries and then many appointments in the morning so he should have been happy about this break but instead he felt frustrated. It wasn't the dancing he was missing much, but his dance instructor. Akshu had messaged him to tell him earlier in the day that she was working on her thesis this weekend so practice had to be postponed until Monday.

"Kya, Akshu?" Abhi rubbed his temples. "Magar mujhe kyun itna bura lag raha hai? I should be happy I don't get to hear her nonstop chatter for two days. Ya, I'm happy. Finally, I can work in peace. Yes. This is good....." Abhi laid down on the sofa and closed his eyes to rest. But after a few seconds, he opened his eyes again because all he saw with his eyes closed was....Akshu. Her messy hair bun with the loose strands around her face, her big beautiful eyes, her smile....that little birthmark behind her ear. How do I even know she has a birthmark there? Abhimanyu, you are losing your damn mind. There was no point staying in his cabin. Abhi got up and went back to work.

"DONE!" Akshu exclaimed. "Done, done, done!!"

"You finished your thesis??? Already?" Aaru asked.

"No, I finished part one. That's something to celebrate." Akshu said happily. "I'm going to Neil's."

"You mean, Abhimanyu's house." Aaru smirked.

"Same thing.....he's probably at the hospital." Akshu picked up her bag and ran out of the door before Aaru could say anything else.

"Maa! I'm really tired. I don't feel like eating anything, can I just go rest? I'll eat later." Abhi protested. This weekend was nonstop work for him and now all he wanted was his bed.

"Aise kaise? Kuch kha le."

"Tumhari maa theek keh rahi hai. Just eat a little." Harsh told Abhi.

"Papa...I..." AbhI started to speak before hearing a crashing sound. Akshara.

"I'm okay!" Akshu called out from the living room. "And nothing broke!"

Akshu came to the dinning table where Manjiri, Harsh, Neil and Abhi were eating lunch. "Oooh family lunch? Should I leave?"

"Pagal ho kya? Tum bhi toh family ho. Aajao baito." Manjiri took Akshu and made her sit next to Abhi.

"Hi Abhi...how are you? Oooooooh rajma!" Akshu took some rice and rajma and put it on the plate.

"Bhukad!" Neil rolled his eyes. "Tumhare ghar mein tumhe koi khana nahi dehte?"

"Neil!" Harsh warned him.

"It's okay, uncle. Jalta hai mujhse."

"Abhi, nahi kahna toh jao sojao. I'll bring you something later." Manjiri said to Abhi.

"What? No, I'm starving. Akshu, pass me the rice please."

Manjiri and Harsh exchanged a look and smiled.

"Neil, kab se kah rahe ho. I need help with my laptop. Chalo." Harsh got up and dragged Neil with him.

"Arrey, I think I left the stove on." Manjiri said running to the table.

Really? Those are very weak excuses. Abhi smiled at the effort his parents made so he could be alone with Akshu. He looked at Akshu who was oblivious to what had just happened and was happily eating her food.

"Soo.....how is your thesis going?"

"It's....going." Akshu looked at him. "Yaar, let's not talk about it....Warna phirse mood off hojaye ga. By the way, I hope you been practicing. You want to remain my partner?"

"Your partner?"

"Dance partner?" Akshu gave him a questioning look.

"Ya...of course."

"Do you want to practice after lunch? You look exhausted though."

"No no. Me? Exhausted? Not at all. Let's practice." Abhi grinned at her.

"Oaaakay!"

Yeh khadoos ko kya hogaya hai?

"Did you see the way Abhi lit up when Akshu came?" Harsh asked Manjiri.

"Haan...and that smile?? He forgot all about his exhaustion." Manjiri laughed.

"Tumhe laghta hai ke Abhi ko Akshu pasand hai?"

"Mujhe rag raha hai magar he doesn't want to admit it...."

"Yet." Harsh smiled.

"Yet." Manjiri nodded.

"Akshu, I can't figure out this step."

"Kaunsi?" Akshu and Abhi were in Abhi's room, going over the steps again.

"The marjawan part?"

"Ooh...aye main marjawan marjawan tere bin...ab toh raatein kat ti taare gin gin..." Akshu started singing.

"Aye main marjawan tere bin..." Abhi looked at Akshu.

"Okay...so." Akshu came close to Abhi. "Hand on my waist, my arm around your neck...now hold my other hand..." Abhi put his hand on Akshu's waist and took his other hand and removed the clip from the top of her head letting her hair go loose.

Akshu looked at Abhi full of confusion.

"You look nice with your hair down." Abhi smiled at her.

"Okay Shah Rukh Khan. But don't try to cause distractions during practice or I'll also turn into Shah Rukh but from Anjaam."

Abhi shook his head laughing.

"Now, give me your hand....left foot backwards..front foot..." Akshu continued to give instructions to Abhi while keeping an eye on his feet while he focused all his attention on her face.

"Brooooo!" Neil came to Abhi's room and saw Akshu and Abhi a little too close. "Okaaay never mind..." he said turning around. "That's awkward."

"What's awkward?" Akshu said with her arm still around Abhi's neck. "Neiliye! Sun!" Akshu said getting away from Abhi. "When are you fixing my guitar?"

"Oh it's fixed."

"Aur yeh tu mujhe kab batane wala tha?" Akshu said angrily.

"I forgot...it's in my room. Let me go get it." Neil said leaving the room.

"You play the guitar?" Abhi asked in surprise.

"Haan?" Akshu replied. "I love to sing.....I'm trained for it."

"I mean, I've heard you sing and it's nice but..."

"No....I sing sing. Woh toh mazak mein hai na...but I also sing sing."

"Sing sing. I wanna hear."

"Okay Anu Malik, this is not Indian Idol....I told you no distractions. Back to dancing."

"Akshu...."

"No. Dance only. I know you don't like it but you don't have a choice.

Abhi smirked. I don't want to have a choice.

I think yeh Abhi toh gaya...Akshu is forever a jhalli. Anyways....real story is starting. What y'all think?
