Yes music and songs back then used to transport you to another world and lyrics were meaningful. As a listener you could also guess which hero or heroine this song must have been filmed on. The way Rafi sang for Shammi it was evident that the zany song was from a Shammi film. He brought speed and zest in his voice whenever he sang for Shammi.

There is a reason you can spend all day listening to old songs and lose track of time. But today's songs get forgotten soon like junk food.

So true.

I always felt I was born in the wrong era. Sometimes I'd tell my grandmother that when i was too little to understand how reproduction works 😆

@bold: omg you took the words out of my mouth! In today's times, if I listen to even two extra songs from the newer lot, I get a headache.

Its not like we dont have talented people these days...but something was so real about yesteryear songs that I don't listening to Lata Ji, Asha Ji, Rafi Sahab, Kishore Da, Manna Da, and composers like Shankar Jaikishan, OP Nayyar, SD Burman, Chitragupta, C Ramchandra, Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal forever ❤️

I relate to every word you said. Can't add more to it. Glad I found someone like minded.

I liked songs till early 2000s. Ones made since last few years are definitely forgettable and noisy. I mean you cannot compare Neha Kakkar to Lata and Asha or even to Alka and Kavita or Shreya. Standards are on decline. And Arijit is a one trick pony. He lacks versatility of Kishore and Rafi or even Udit, Kumar and Sonu.

I've often been called Dadi Amma, Nani Amma for my opinions 😆

So high-five! TO have finally met someone who thinks like me ❤️

There's a total decline in quality. At least Alka, Anuradha, Sadhana, Udit, Sanu, Abhijeet were worthy successors who added flavour to the songs offered to them. Then the likes of Shreya, Sunidhi, Sonu, KK carried the torch forward.

To put Neha Kakkar in that mix is embarrassing. I often wonder how she judges reality show singers, who are all superior than her.

@bold: OMG I never thought I'd meet another person who would say this!! I never liked his voice. He started off his career imitating other singers, and then became an Atif impersonator. You might have seen videos of Arijit on Fame Gurukul, and he's trying to make his throw like Kishore Da.

This is a very rare song, and one of Lataji's best imo. Esp technically. Have you heard it, atominis?

The difference is the ‘lyrics’. Very few songs have memorable lyrics these days.

The tunes too man, lets not take away from it.

Music and lyrics had Diya-Baati rishta. And singers added just the right tadka to the mix.

Abhi na tune hai, na lyrics.

It's a major factor actually. The pathetic descent from consummate poets like Shailendra, Neeraj, Sahir Ludhianvi, Gulzar, Majrooh Sultanpuri etc. to these cola cola fame Kakkars and badshahs has been so damaging. 🤢

I don't like Arijit much either. He has potential but he lacks the skills and techniques to execute his vision. Atleast female singers don't look upto Neha. It's still Lata- Asha for most of the young budding singer or Shreya- Sunidhi. But male singers really follow Arijit and that's why the industry has gone downhill. Now there is Jubin who is so monotonous I can't believe he is a top singer😵
