I guess there have always been different sets of audiences for each of these two types that you describe. Possibly one is more visible / audible in the media but the other too has a market.

Actually they still happen, at least in Kolkata city.
Covid cuts out that audience in recent times, unfortunately.
Even my Club hosts (used to at least) likes of Shreya, Rashid Khan, Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty and various regional stalwarts regularly. There are other similar platforms.
We also have world famous Dover Lane Music Conference which would be a great place for someone like Aru to showcase her talent.
But, you are right. By and large, the Neha Kakkar type shows get all the attention and money. Sign of the times.

Talking about loud, uncontrolled shows being the norm. That is not always the case.

I am adding two links. Both of Arijit shows in Kolkata

The 1st has beat music type of songs.

The 2nd was a show that was centered around melody. Someone from my family attended that night and came back with a smile that lasted a week! 😃

I don't know about Ghazals specifically, but concerts for classical music do keep happening. Bookmyshow is a good place to track what goes on. Subject to Covid disruption, of course.

Current popular Gazal singers include Shreya Ghoshal, Javed Ali, Hariharan, Penaz Masani, and Anup Jalota. My hope is that one day Arunita makes this list. :)
