loved this discussion too because it was also a lovely inversion of the tropes from the romance novel, imlie's biggest issue is that she is simultaneously Miss IndependentTM but then beholden to adi for all the reasons discussed before on here, right, so for her to be the hero and Aryan to be the villain, even though he's actually her strongest support gets at how in romance novels the heroine's hero is supposed to support her to be the best version of herself, but not change her unnecessarily. i loved it!

He clearly referred to himself as the villian in her story because she keeps teasing him/riling him to get a response out of him by using the comment about him being the one who keeps her from going to Babusaheb, but that also came across as a clear challenge for her to deny it if she thinks otherwise – which would also mean clarifying what otherwise means. But Imlie skirted across the first and jumped to the second.
