when the whole Jeremy memory compelling thing was going on, Stefan had offered Elena that he could have asked Damon to compel her memories away too and she had said that she doesnt want to forget him.

even when she had first seen Stefan's vampire side, she had told him not to hide, she trusted him that he won't hurt her

she had shared the memories of her parents with him, that she didnt talk about with anyone else

those hugs, she felt safe and protected with him

she had always told Stefan its them in the end.

she knew Stefan is a ripper but when she realised that he needs human blood in his system, she had offered her own blood to him and she had trust that he will stop.

when Stefan was stuck in the tomb with Katherine, she hadn't actually feared that Katherine could take away Stefan from her

she knew that fire could take her down, in season 1 finale, but she was ready to risk her self to save Stefan.

Also, she risked her life when she was ready to go in a house full of tomb vampires to save Stefan.

When Stefan had gone with Klaus, she hadn't lost hope on saving him.

Even when Stefan had lost his memory in season 5, we could see feelings surface when she was getting Stefan to remember jog his memory.

I love the vm and what you said about Delena and Stelena ships is so true, and personally I am really old school when it comes to romance, that's why Stelena hits so differently.

but in s4,s5 they turned damon into elena's puppy like dont do this elena wont forgive you blah blah it was too much damon was much better when he was single and i liked him much better with bonnie than with elena

thats why delena werent endgame material they were supposed to happen yes but their relationship wasnt strong enough to be endgame that was all stelena

Parents caught it too unfortunately (most possibly from me 😔)- their road to recovery has been slightly longer.

All in all, I wouldn't say this version is "mild" by any stretch of imagination.

Suffering through it isn't easy, and it's equally a tough job for the caretakers too.
