Just wanted to put some thoughts out here. Sharing some opinions I derived over my stay with this show, forum and some of the peripherals that the show covers. You may or may not agree with all or some, but I’m sure it will give you some food for thought if not already. Apologies for the long post.
1. Do we matter? Let me start this with the most important fact. We have often questioned ourselves, discussed it here, seeing the TRPs whether we as an online audience make a difference. Well, I believe yes. Contrary to what we believe or rather how we are made to believe. I guess we miss the mark by not seeing why we are important. They need us for the hype, the constant buzz around the show and the cast. To keep them in news. TV audience cannot help with that. Hence the tactics change with the online audience because the need from us is different.
2. Any publicity is good publicity - Having established that fact, lets move on to the kind of buzz. Realising that they are unable to gain positive hype they shifted gears to negative one. Atleast that keeps the show and certain people in news. And sometimes the negativity gives more views comments and hype than the positive one. Objective met I should say?
3. Difference of opinion yet a common cause - We as individuals may have our own differences in opinion and more so when we form a different fan base. Fans of FL, ML, onscreen couple, the show and so on. But in all the these differences we have one thing is common, our disappointment with the way the show has progressed and the regressive tracks that they keep showing. Thats a common sore point. Why not unite for that one cause? We may stand divided in our views on other aspects and we should respect each other for their opinions while we continue to voice our own. But drive the agenda together where it is required.
Trivia fact - While I have seen ML, FL, Sairat and show fans criticise the show and plot. But I have never seen a certain exclusive PL fanbase do that. It mostly revolves around defending their idol or slinging mud on others. Well thats my observation, and I may be wrong. Please let me know if that is the case. But if it isn’t then we should see through how we keep getting played out, by wasting our energies on wrong people.
4. Boycotting - I see that audience has stopped using the hashtags. Its the first step. But do we see how they can still get to us. We clearly see how everytime the FL has some achievement there is a simultaneous attempt to sabotage or dampen the effect. As the audience is pulled in two different directions it actually divides the appreciation and acknowledgement meant for someone as the focus shifts to the other one. So lets stop reading and reacting to such news and articles. See how for a change instead of us getting riled up the others are getting worried about not receiving negative publicity and hype
5. Practice what we preach - As humans we get triggered and that invokes a reaction. Negative the most spontaneous. It’s an attempt at revenge or giving it back. But we fail to realise that when we start writing such negative things we create that negativity in us, in our thoughts as well. Why bother ourselves with it? We keep talking about these celebrities should ignore trolling and online thrashing and negative comments. But don’t apply the same on ourselves. Ignore them and any if their tactics. Instead spread positive and channelise our energies towards something that is worthy of it. For eg- About the supporting cast putting up a story - Instead of writing things things like he is just out there to get noticed and get publicity, he is not a good actor etc. can we write “The actor who played the role earlier was so good. He gave life to the character and we connected with him so well. I think he would have nailed the dialogues and the scene” Thats it. Not a mention about anyone else. You have given your reaction, a positive one with giving acknowledgement where its due and without giving any attention to anyone else. Attention seekers sulking in the corner at the failed attempt. Howzzat?
6. News and articles - Why bother reading it despite knowing that the content will get us upset. Steer clear. Dont give views to content that you already know is meant to derive certain reaction and is just a tactic. If we calls them paid ones, we should also understand such portals can’t survive purely on the money given to publish articles. They need readership, they need credibility. Or else the very same people who pay for articles will stop giving them money and work. Whats the point of putting up a news on a site/portal which does not have any readers/viewers? Wastage of money. They are in business because we read what they publish. And the majority of their readers will be the ones following the show. We!
8. Toxicity/Negativity- Its appalling how words like depression and mental health are so loosely used to garner attention and sympathy. Without understanding the pain of the ones going through it. These are serious issues. Such a mockery of it. But why do we have to give any one chance at it and then also be blamed for it. It’s a clear fact that they need publicity, negative one, and they instigate us for it. Why do we even give them what they want? We should stop reacting to them and completely ignore them. Throwing a statement that we don’t matter was a deliberate attempt to instigate us while being fully aware what we are and we do matter in a very crucial way. See the play. Why do we need to abuse and be rude to someone to prove a point? And why do we even have to react to someone we don’t like or someone we know is trying to use? They are smartly playing the game, inviting such comments and then crying foul. Making is the villains. Why do we have to give fodder for such unwarranted stuff? We will still have people who will write but we can choose to stay away. And then we will have the fake ones created to mock and create an agenda. For that I can only feel sorry for their desperate state to abuse themselves to get attention. Such poor state of life and choices. Nothing much to say.
Staying out of news can lead to desperate attempts to revive it. Beware. Channelise and focus your energies and resources on things that are meaningful, that you admire, and that you want to promote and encourage. This will widen the gap further between the deserving and non deserving. And also save us from the toxicity and negativity. The fact is we have been used and the irony is we freely allowed it with/without our knowledge. Let’s not allow someone to use us as their puppets to achieve their own personal needs. Stop mentioning certain people who spread these negativity in any capacity. They should cease to exist in our lives. Spread that positivity. Let’s take our power back and use it wisely and productively. Let’s do this for ourselves.
