Being a South Indian Mehmood’d mannerisms irk me but this song and Kishoreda make up for it!

Kadkesuranomanomuchkar 🤣

Karkebothancheerbichakar 🤣

Sab chale gaye.. 🤣🤣

What nonsense he spouts 🤣

I’m sure this song was improvised ( except the mukhda ofc which is taken from Dada Moni’s song)

But jake naale mooh dhoke aa seems like a racist slur 🥺

It has not aged well but it still makes me laugh mainly because of KK, Sunil Dutt and even Saira Banu. Her expressions are a hoot!

I'm back with another beautiful creation. It can be safely said that Hindi as a language is toned a bit down in Bollywood (Just like Urdu or any other language) to make the lyrics more promising to the audience. Years ago, when I was still in school, I'd been sitting down with my father on a Sunday Night and discussing music just like we mostly do and he remembered this gem out of nowhere after I mentioned something. It took me a while to search the song, almost ignored his request and played something light, like Kishore Da or Asha Ji. But luckily there was this one video on YT and I hit play. What followed was me getting awestruck by the use of 'Shudhh Hindi' in a Bollywood song something that I've found very rare always. The song is an ultimate representation of devotion towards your significant other with words that literally indicate worship. I haven't watched the movie yet but this song has been imprinted on my heart!

Hope Y'all like it just as much as I have!

To those of you who missed the news today Lata Ji has been hospitalized and is currently in ICU right now after she tested positive for Covid. Let's all hope she makes it!

The hidden innuendos in that era's songs were another level of mastery 😅😅☺️

Damn, I had no idea about Lata Mangeshkar.😒 Let me go read the updates!

Whatever I feel about her, there's no contesting the fact that she's an icon!

Tum gagan ke chandrama ho is a beautiful song and so under-rated. I hadn't heard this song at all. Then once I was researching songs for a thread someone had made on 'Moon' songs, and I came across this one and I was hooked. So beautiful!

Speaking of 'Chand' songs, here's another one I 'discovered' during my research.

Such a hauntingly beautiful tune.

I can't believe there's no video of it - I found out the song actually did not make it in the movie 😭. I wish it had and more people knew this gem.

True. Am not very well versed with the actors nor the iconic representatives of the song but definitely the actors' humorous expressions did bring life to the song. I was amazed to read about the artists and the history of song. Unfortunately, my knowledge is zero in that area. 😔 I read some of the posts by @Viswasruti and am awed by her in depth knowledge on classical music etc. 😳

Indeed it is a slur, more so in terms of color. Shows how deeply skin color discrimination has been ingrained into people. Sad part about the song.

Nevertheless, i would still like to sing the "vroom vroom" and "aha ehe ihi oho" parts 😆

Hope Lata Mangeshkar gets well soon. She is being treated for Pneumonia and Covid 😕

Lata’s combination with several music directors have always been a hit - SJ, S.D. Burman, C.Ramachandra but her combination with Madan Mohan stands out. It’s as if he made those compositions only keeping Lata in mind

Tum gagan ke chandrama ho is one of my favourite moon songs..

Tum pralay ke devta ho..main samarpit phool hun..

The reference to Shiva/Shankara in this song makes it ethereal!

https://youtu.be/TmrWFQyqGlM

Chand aahein bharega, phool dil thaam lenge ..husn ki baat chhidi to sab Tera naam lenge ..

Chup na hogi hawa bhi, kuch kahegi ghata bhi

Aur mumkin hai tera, zikr kar de khuda bhi

Phir to patthar hi shaayad zabt se kaam lenge..

Ahaa.. Anand Bakshi's lyrics, Kalyanji Anandji's music and Mukesh's voice!!!

Really sad to know about Lata Mangeshkar ma'am. Hope she is able to fight her illness and come out a warrior. She has sung wonderful songs and I have been always in awe of her versatility. Was listening to this song in the morning. While the battle to get better is all hers, I just wish to send her, her family and her fans strength, and peace in these difficult times. As per the note on the video, this exquisite performance by Lata Mangeshkar ji is from her "Lata An Era In An Evening" Concert in Mumbai on 9th March 1997.

Hello Peeps,

I was so busy working on my O.P.N tribute for Jan 16 that I completely missed the fact that today (Jan 14) is Kaifi Azmi's Birthday.

Too late to post a tribute but we can at least post our favorite Kaifi songs!

Here are some of mine --

I know these have been posted earlier in this thread, but idc, I just love them!

All the songs from this movie - but Dekhi zamaane ki yaari and Waqt ne kiya have my heart and soul till the end of time!

Kaagaz ke phool (1959), Singer: Geeta Dutt, Music, S.D Burman

Waqt ne kiya

I have no words for this song. It's sublime. It's perfection. Everything about it. smiley19

Dekhi zamane ki yaari, Singer: Mohd. Rafi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4xWz6qa4rQ

Kya leke milein ab duniya se, aansoo ke siwa kuch paas nahi

Ya phool hee phool the daaman mein, ya kaaton ki bhi aas nahi

matlab ki duniya hai saari....

bichde sabhi baari baari 😭👏

Jaane kya dhoondti rehti hai ye aankhein mujhme from Shola aur Shabnam (1962)

Music: Khayyam, Singer: Mohd. Rafi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWW6lsU9pcE

Aarzoo jurm wafa jurm tamanna hai gunaah

ye woh duniya hai jahan pyaar nahi ho sakta

kaise baazaar ka dastoor tumhe samjhaaoon

bik gaya jo woh khareedaar nahi ho sakta 😭 (No emoji is apt for this one!)
