I loved how naturally Abhimanyu fell in love with Latika, and then how Lati gradually fell in love with Abhya. Their bickering at the outset made sense; Abhimanyu disliked Latika's unhealthy habits, e.g. complaining that she was out of breath after even a short walk. Even then, when she served him half a sweet dish, he couldn't help asking for the whole, and then a second helping. Then they talked one evening, and remembered that they used to be friends.

I enjoyed almost every stage of their progress after the forced marriage: agreeing to be friends so that they could separate amicably; Abhimanyu convincing Latika to exercise for fitness, not unattainable weight loss; enjoying each other's company and avoiding Sajjan and Kamini; planning the academy together; Abhimanyu boosting Latika's confidence in her physical beauty; Latika learning self-defence and helping Abhimanyu to train for the race; Abhimanyu feeling jealous of Mohan and unworthy because Latika was covering his mortgage payments; Latika rehabilitating Abhimanyu from the hospital ...

I didn't like that Abhimanyu allowed Latika to go on thinking that she would have to leave his family, and all of her efforts to fit in would be wasted. He should have cared more about her security than how he might appear to be using her. The Vaṭa-Paurṇimā scenes were unnecessary cheap drama. But after that, I liked how Abhimanyu didn't just have to convince Latika that he loved her; Latika didn't follow the "āmhī gāī-jātīcyā" philosophy of an Indian TV female accepting her marriage no matter how it happened; Abhimanyu had to deal with Latika having her own ideas of what her husband should be.

Now, I think it's time for the show to go in a new direction. Give us payoff for all these months of Daulat's crimes; let Ashutosh finally divorce Hema and have a chance to be happy; give Vikya a storyline, bring on new antagonists, and let Latika pursue an ambition worthy of her abilities, such as running for MLA to unseat Ābā.

So, Bhanupriya has to deal with unwelcome attention from Sarjerav (lechery), Daulat (suspicion), and now Mukya (sexual harassment). I don't know if any of this will move the story forward, but I must commend the show for presenting these scenes seriously, without the usual homophobic winks and eyebrow-wiggles and quirky music of a cross-dressing farce.

Abhya is experiencing the discomfort that a woman would feel in such a workplace.

I remember commenting like this on some forums. How casually they are misogynistic, sexist, racist and creepy when i saw it jn a show

Everyone took it as a joke and asked me to ignore cos "tv serial ahe yaar"

I left that group cos serial aso kinva real life, some things should not be tolerated.

It's disgusting.

"It's only a TV show" is said by people who have no real argument but like to have the last word.

It's a product, and I am a consumer. My complaining about the product's bad taste is data. If enough viewers feel the way I do, my feedback reflects why current TV shows fail to catch on, and what we would be willing to watch if someone brought a new product to market.

Entertainment for me is the story. For someone else, it may be fight scenes or did-they-really-kiss scenes, festival costumes or skin-shows, or one special character or couple. I watch to escape into the story, and if there isn't poetic justice, if serious issues are trivialized, or if the protagonists are outrageous, it's not enjoyable for me.

Sajjan's signature phrase "Manda āhesa kā tū?" translates as, "Are you retarded?" It's disability-shaming, which is no joke. "Tulā kaḷata nāhī kā?" would have been more enjoyable - equally whiny without being offensive.

Of course, Daulat would use 1234 as the combination to open his safe!

But if Latika has memorized Daulat's favourite string of numbers, why wouldn't she have already told Abhimanyu to try that combination first?

Why would Abhimanyu need Nandini to find out Daulat's birthday? He went to school with Daulat, whose MLA father wants him to go into politics. Wouldn't Daulat's birthday have been an occasion for Ābā to solicit endorsements from the whole village?

I haven't visited Maharashtra for the past several years, so forgive me if my experience is out of date. Is it no longer the fashion to put up posters congratulating politicians and their family on birthdays?

It is fashion and Daulat would do that as his character loves attention. But the writers conveniently forget this. Latika remembering all the numbers is sheer bizarro.

Ugach avarnar ahet show asa vatta.

Again the disclaimer against laiṅgika hiṃsā was used, this time for Sarjerav using his belt to hit Taramati.

Domestic violence should not be equated with sexual violence. It's important to recognize that domestic violence isn't always a husband beating his wife. It can be a wife attacking her husband, or a physically weaker person attacking a stronger person. This is different from sexual violence, which is almost always committed by a man or boy against victims of any age or gender.

Sundara Manāmadhe Bharalī shouldn't have victim-shamed Sajjan for "allowing" his father to beat him with a chappal. Uttamrav slapping Abhimanyu to get him to marry Latika should have had more serious consequences than Indumati saying "Mārū nakā," or it shouldn't have happened at all. At least when Indumati slapped Latika, it was recognized as abusive.

Indian TV shows have always trivialized physical abuse and show frequently show characters slapping. You're right, sexual violence shouldn't be equated to domestic violence... especially now during pandemic times any kind of abuse shouldn't be shown.

I can't agree with this. Incidents of domestic abuse have increased due to the pandemic, and I think daily dramas are a suitable genre to address real societal issues seriously.

It's too bad that some TV shows either romanticize domestic abuse (e.g. Mehandī Hai Racanevālī) or treat it as bad luck, with well-wishers agreeing to the abuser's demands because the victim shouldn't lose her marital status (e.g. Ābhāḷācī Māyā).

I feel that Taramati's plight has been handled sensitively, for example when she told Nandini that she didn't have family support, but Nandini does. Or when Latika said that if Akkāsāheba had married an educated man, she could have accomplished something in her own name. Or when Taramati told Latika that she lied to the police because telling the truth wouldn't lead to justice. Or even when Daulat said to Nandini that his mother didn't want to marry his father but it made no difference.

I hope that Taramati's subversive opposition to her abusive husband will pay off, and his downfall will be her opportunity to leave him. She could move in with the Jahagirdar family to look after their house, now that her dear friend Indu is dead and Hema, who covered up the murder, doesn't deserve to live there anymore. Nothing can make up for Daulat killing Indu, but her family stealing Daulat's mother, leaving Daulat to fend for himself, would be a step in the right direction.

Tbh, I stopped watching Sundara a while back. I haven't watched Nandini. And follow the story from posts here. I haven't watched Abhalachi Maya and Mehndi....like the critique and analyses in your posts though.
