Education plays a big role in taking care of the house... whether it's upbringing of kids, managing finances or supporting your spouse in their career.

That's true. But, unfortunately, it's so often used as an 'excuse' to dissuade women from having a career or a job.

True. But at the end of the day, women remain primary caregivers for kids and parents in 95% households in our culture and some others like Italians and Greeks.

I've met at least 3 white/black peers where the husband cooks and wife can't boil water to save her life. But men cooking full fledged and managing kitchen is shunned in our culture. One of our friend's son...15-16 loves to cook and his Dad gets mad at him for that and his brother makes fun of him....and there's is a mixed family with mother being Italian-American and Dad Indian-American.

I've seen in Scandinavian families husband taking a sabbatical to take care of kids while the wife works....its pretty common.

More power to these men.

Ikde serial made half episode goes in asking who wants tea and men order like they're in a 5 star.

I remember an older episode when nikhil comes to the kitchen to get some tea or food and they shout at sumi or something like that because he had to come in.

I mean come on

Pre cap - Anjali is mad upon learning from Kaushik that th wedding is going to be low key and will take place at their home.

So far Bhaskar just comes across as insensitive and shameless, regardless of what his backstory is. I get trying to have a conversation with Vidya in private but coming to the Kanitkars with his wife and kid is so not on.

@bold: This irks me. Just because you live in a joint family it doesn't mean everything should be free-for-all. It's a sensitive situation, why are these discussions not happening in private.

Remember vinayak said to anjali,"privacy ka Kay te ikde nasta, sarvanchi daara open astat"

Why is privacy a bad thing for joint families? Who on earth writes these dialogues?

Yes, that was an odd statement by Vinayak.

May be they meant to say being secretive. Because being secretive is not the same as being private.

Vidya insisted that they talk in front of everyone. She seemed annoyed (and rightly so) to see Bhaskar at their doorstep with his family in tow. And yet Bhaskar's wife wanted to talk to her; that I found was insensitive...they had just met for Pete's sake!!

Serials are far away from reality. So many people staying together in one singe house is highly impractical. No one having a vehicle, giving all money to eldest brother who in turn gives them pocket money. No maids and servants, and for every penny and small expense other members in the family have to take eldest person's permission ? utter nonsense. Even if you consider from Bengali culture point of view i don't think it is possible in today's day and time.
