and I don't understand this love for katrina over the other Bollywood stars, in old Bollywood she would have been an item girl, she can dance, but can't act. so all this hate for others around her but this adulation for katrina as a Bollywood heroine, I just don't get it other than she is pretty and can dance. she would be like Helen was in the past. not to say Helen isn't an icon.

Only in imagination of critics and writers or film school curricula.

In real life no one remembers such films nor do they get repeat value.

Aamir's first national award winning performance is Raakh. But no one has seen it even on TV. Some of his post 90s fans may not even remember its name nor know that he won National award for it.

Same for any other star.

Ajay's films like Jigar, Phool Aur Kaante, Singham, Pyar toh hona hi tha, Dilwale etc are way more popular than his National award winning Zakhm which is rarely shown much on TV.

And I bet you can ask anyone in real life if they know Masaan or who Vicky is unless they are reminded of Uri.

Vicky is best known as the guy from Uri. Or Sanju at the most. No one in masses knows Masaan.

Actor is known through his or her most popular films. Even these artsy or critical acclaim film lovers do not list non popular films of artsy actors. Ask them about Smita and Shabana and their first reply will be likely Arth, Mandi or Mirch Masala and not their less known but heavyweight performance films.

These are facts that even serious actors know. This is why they do commercial films and do not do offbeat films all life. Smita Patil, Om Puri, Naseer shit on commercial cinema and audience all life in interviews but ultimately did commercial films themselves to stay afloat.

Elitism works in plays and theatres. Not in a mass medium like cinema.

Big hits run careers of actors, producers, directors, workers, musicians, writers and practically the industry itself. Big hits sell DVDs and gets downloads, hits online. Big hits are reason why no other writer is even known while Salim Javed were legends and are still known, had their names on posters like heroes. Big hits are what even artsy actors crave but blame audience when they do not get those commercial hits and viewership they crave so badly.

Repeat telecasts of big hits run bread and butter of TV channels also. Zee Cinema would have shut down if it screened only so called critically acclaimed films and never showed big hits like HAHK and Gadar. Even channels know which films beget them TRPs and which don't.

Actors can work without stars from critics but no one can even pay their bills if they do not get stars from audience. Facts. People need to accept it is a business which is meant for entertainment and people watch films for pastime and flights of fantasy primarily.

Even acting and stardom are distinguished only online or in debates or by critics. In real life audience does not distinguish actor and star at all and for them their fav star is the fav actor or best actor for them. The most popular stars have often been most criticised for their acting or script choices by critics but they were lapped up by masses who saw no fault in their acting or scripts.

Acting is considered only by award juries, film schools. Not by public at large. That is why public vote based awards always have different results compared to awards by juries and critics.

If big hits were forgotten then people would not still remember biggest BO stars of their era and songs from hit films.

Big stars and big hits run even sites of haters whose bread and butter is to prove a star is actually 'not a star or a nobody'.

You are right on this but Katrina is the most popular star of 2005-2013 period. Today's audience does not care about acting or even speech or diction. When it comes to actress they want looks, sex appeal and fair skin. Katrina had that exotic gori mem appeal including her accent. She luckily got most of those NRI or foreign returned girl roles to justify her accent and weak Hindi.

She would have indeed been just an item girl in pre 2000 era. But it cannot be denied she is one of biggest female stars from past decade. The adulation for her is real and undeniable.

Deepika does not need to work with RK nor does she have any point to prove to any fandom. She has 100% success rate with SRK, Ranveer also as onscreen couple. SLB brought out the best in Ranveer particularly in Bajirao Mastani. He has 100% success rate with Ranveer. No film SLB did with Ranveer resulted in a disaster.

Rather RK fans need to move on and stop hating on Ranveer and Deepika or even Katrina now just because Deepika and Katrina are RK's exes and Ranveer is a rival as a star.

RK ia doing well for himself and has a popular, successful GF. He is not a flop star kid. There is no need for his fans to be insecure or hateful of his exes.

Ugh. Why is Ranveer in this discussion at all? He and DP are a good match. Let it go at that.

All this lauding of him as the superstar of the generations only makes him seem ridiculous because he ain't. And this is coming from one of those people who haven't so far found reason to dislike him.

Superstars are the Khans. Superstar is a Hrithik Roshan. Superstar was Amitabh Bachchan. Superstar was Rajesh Khanna.

Ranveer Singh is a star, a reasonable actor. That's it.

As for comparison with Vicky with re: Katrina. God give him a break. 😆 Poor guy must have expected no end of comparisons to Ranbir and Salman. He must be like who is this now? Unless I missed some new gossip, Katrina had nothing to do with Ranveer. It was never a choice between Vicky and Ranveer. Y'all are basically comparing mangoes and avocados (yeah, I felt like like it, so used these 2).

If someone like Vicky is called more good looking than Ranveer or Ranveer is called a nobody you know where the envy and hate are coming from.

Ranveer was mocked when he was signed for his first film. He was mocked and called miscast when he was signed for Bajirao, Padmavat. He is being mocked for 83. He succeeded earlier and proved detractors wrong. He will go from strength to strength again.

He is a natural entertainer with unmatched confidence, energy and does not have to rely on controversies to stay in news or harp about famous parents. He is here to stay and is serious competitor for next #1 position post Khan-Kumar-Devgan era.

It does not matter at all what frustrated fans of other actors or fans of his wife's exes say. Those who naturally assumed they were next/new kings of Bollywood are finding a tough competition in Ranveer. Hence the dislike for this self made outsider is a given.

Just let them be. It’s just one or two heartbroken fans who probably couldn’t stomach their fav couple breaking up and then one of them getting the heat on the entire forum for the past couple of days by everyone. So they needed to vent it on someone and so they dragged Ranveer into this mess. Otherwise any reasonable person with even an average intelligence will never say Ranveer was a nobody in 2018. The fact that they brought him into this mess where he didn’t belong, shows how they don’t believe what they themselves say about him and how much his success and their own favorite’s failure is haunting them. Enough said! 😉

Ranveer is any day a much bigger star than Vicky but he's no Superstar. Although 83 can change that, depending on how the movie does.

Untill Simmba he was struggling to give a clean Hit without SLB and Deepika collaboration. Ram-Leela was seen more as a Deepika film than Ranveer's. She was coming after the success of YJHD and Chennai Express.

While Ranveer films were yet to even cross 50 Crores. Ram-Leela changed it and it was his first 100 Crore film. Ranveer-Deepika became a Hit pair. But he didn't have a Hit again until Bajirao Mastani. The same pattern repeated with Padmaavat which made him seem dependent on SLB and Deepika to get success.

It was even reported that he's paid less than Deepika until Padmaavat so I think it was widely accepted that Ranveer ain't a bigger star than her, even among DeepVeer fans.

When they got married, even the fans of the couple made it seem like marrying Deepika was an achievement for Ranveer. Today it's not true though. Ranveer is a bigger name than Deepika.

He has seen continuous success, even without Deepika and SLB. Simmba was a Blockbuster and Gully Boy was also a Hit. While nowadays Deepika is only seen in Ormax and Forbes lists but not in movies. In last six years she only released 2 films if we remove the cameos. One Flopped and in the other one her boyfriend now husband took the whole limelight.

We can see the same pattern repeating in future with Vicky and Katrina. I think Vicky has the potential to become a bankable star if not a Superstar, but for that he needs to do more commercial films.

Ranveer being compared to Vicky! Hey Bhagwan!! Ranveer is a top label star and even an offbeat movie like Gully Boy opened at 20-22 crores because of him and Alia...that guy is almost the new number one and if 83 does well..that will cement his place..his competition was always RK..Nobody else.

Vicky on the other hand is competing with Ayushman I think..so I don't even see the point of comparing Vicky and Ranveer LOL.
