His reason for questioning Imlie was to get the full story out - there were conflicting stories to the same incident involving 2 ladies, of which one was his wife while the other is his ex-wife who he assumes has become good again. His reason for asking that question was not to express doubt, it was to get a clear idea of what happened - he never asked if she shot Malini, he just asked "us din kya hua tha", meaning what happened that the situation got escalated to the extent that there was a shootout. He just wanted to understand the entire incident, not if she shot Malini or not. But his timing and his question was put in such a way that Imlie's anger was also justified. Adi's POV was not wrong, he chose the wrong freaking place and time to clarify his doubts.
Adi's aadat is just zoning Malini out and letting her speak - that makes his life easier, but gives very wrong signals to DD. Even today his singular point was - why did she leave. Ofcourse DD wanted to spin that to her benefit, but even then he was the least bothered. This does not mean he trusts her - it means that she is so irrelevant for him that what she says honestly does not register for him in his priority scale.
See this was the issue all the time - Adi was able to zone out Malini, so for him whatever she says or does, he was the least bothered. Which was why Imlie's reaction to Malini never made sense to him - he is like agar main usse zone out kar sakta hoon, toh woh kyun nahi. He never understood the dynamics and how Imlie would feel with Malini being in the same house and repeatedly showing Imlie signs that she will do something wrong - that was always hidden from Adi, so all those dynamics were beyond him. Which is why he repeated his patent dialogue today - yeh gharelu mamle humare samjh se bahar hai - usse samajh nahi aata that why should anyone take a pest like Malini seriously😆.
Hence we got the new entry - where we will get the same situation reversed where Adi will be in the position Imlie was all this time, where he will see facets in the new guy and try to warn Imlie who will be the least bothered because she will assume Adi is jealous🤣. When the shoe comes on the other foot that is when this bailbuddhi will get an inkling of what exactly Imlie went through all this time, jisse dekne ke liye main popcorn ke saath maze lene wali hoon😆
