Just now watched July 4th and 5th episode - Virat confronting his family about ill-treating Ashwini followed by SaiRat conversation.

I was not satisfied with Virat-family confrontation scene - both in terms of dialogues and acting. The dialogues did not have flow - it jumped from point to point notwithstanding unnecessary interruptions. Nor did it sufficiently create the mood.

Neil's acting was off - he seemed out of comfort. His voice modulation was flat - there was no depth and lacking in emotion. He seems to have this discomfort in a lot of family scenes - except he was okay in the family confrontation scene post ousting, and after Sai leaves CN recently. He needs to work in this area.

He was better during Sairat conversation - and so was the dialogue. But it still felt a little off. I guess it wasn't his day. He also seems to have developed this habit of dilating his pupils - it looks really bad.

Anybody felt differently?

Agree...Actually I dont find Neil good at all...Even in that scene where the two are sitting and he is crying on her shoulders , the whole posture looked so weird from the wider angle... Camera angles are really bad...The whole celebrate anniversary for me was so immature. This so is BAKWAAS!!!

I know what you are saying about the posture 😆.

I agree that Neil wasn't up to the mark in the SaiRat scene - it was quite disappointing. Both the scenes had no re-watch value.

I don't understand his discomfort in the family scenes. I was watching a scene from gulaal where he had a confrontation scene with the villagers and even family- atleast he seemed comfortable in his body language and dialogue delivery - how great/not great the acting was is another discussion. But in Ghum, I often find him not comfortable with himself - and it showed in his performance that day - totally flat and artificial. Compare that to Ayesha - even when she had problems with voice modulation and generally the acting in the earlier family scenes - she never looked so much like a fish out of water as Neil seems to be doing.

Unless there was some issue of contract terms, makers should have made changes to KD - shown the toxicity in a sensible way - if only to send some positive morals in society. Which Anupama is probably doing (I'm not sure if it is)? They should have shown consistency in characterization and plot. Who knows,. ghum would have been competing with Anupama for top slot.

As usual, Ashwini's trauma is never dealt properly just like Sai's pain post abuse is never addressed.

The anniversary "solution" was asinine. And to pull out old letters and wipe of 37 years of bitterness and abuse in a few minutes was the height of crappiness.

You know, I would be willing to overlook bad direction, poor editing if only the writing had been satisfactory. The writing is the foundation - when it is so so crappy, what is even the purpose of the show?

Neil is more of a director's actor, If the director is good, his performance comes out, when its left to him, he is confused and rightly so because of how Virat's character is a confusing one. Virat is bipolar and very moody so you see, it kind of might be getting difficult for him to handle it all himself..Not his forte.. Ayesha in general is very confident and comfortable actor..So that attitude works for him. Neil's body language has becomes a huge problem for me. It destroys the viewing experience. Cant be overlooked. Also in haha hehe scenes he looks fake, he looks like he is acting..Ayesha still comes natural in some scenes and fake in some, but this guy always looks fake. He has deteriorated as an actor.

I don't think the issue in this scene was the writing. I do give him leeway when the characterization becomes complicated - especially in the craziest phase post anniversary. This scene was not about Virat at all - it could be perfectly approached as a standalone scene - a man confronting his dad about his mother's abuse.

I wonder if the discomfort in family scenes comes from trying too hard to be "Virat" - the obedient, timid son - especially when it comes to Ninad and Bhavani. And Virat has been made progressively much weaker towards his family. Compare this scene to the family confrontation post ousting - Virat was broken and in no mood for being nice - Neil was relaxed, comfortable and the emotions and expressions naturally came in a flow. I'm not sure if I'm able to convey what I mean by 'discomfort'. As you said, maybe the previous director was able to help him in getting a better balance in the family scenes - although I have not liked him much in such scenes even earlier. For a few episodes after SaiRat marriage, he was ok - but then Virat was never shown to be weak - more like calm but firm.

Perfectly said. Simple and yet complicated.

Yeah...I was pleasantly surprised by the FL's psychological complexity...her defence mechanism, trust issues...and Sanam Saeed played it perfectly. ❤️
