Well, the Sai of my OS is slightly toned down version of the one shown in the serial.

The hair trigger temper is there, but she uses it only when needed. That way, she doesnt burn her fingers.

Thanks for the response.

They are going to miss each other for some time😭

Best part is, Virat doesnt know that Sai is there. But now she knows...and she will go all out to avoid him. Yet they will bump into each other.

The hook is on..

Stay tuned for the next chapter.

More later.

Yes, my parents are doctors, but this serial has hardly any medical stuff involved.

Keep waiting! And cheering...

Next chapter deviates from the serial storyline.

Sleep eluded her that night.

It seemed so ironical. She had practically run away from him, his family, his mansion like home.

And here he was. Her next door neighbour for a month or so.

Was her fate conspiring against her? did she even have a destiny? Her father, her only relation, was the light of her world. He was so happy and proud of her academic achievement. She had topped her 12 exams and had set her eyes on the prestigious Nagpur medical college entrance. Her dreams were big and so was her ability to achieve them.

Then one day, her world shattered. Her father had been martyred on a mission. And before losing to the oblivion, he had handed over her responsibility to this man. Virat Chavan, who had agreed to marry her. But this was just a formality, mainly to take care of her. He was already committed to someone else.

Married, yes, her fingers crept subconsciously to her hair. He had stared fixedly at her face as the vermillion filled the parting. She had sobbed throughout the marriage. Then came the stay in his house, the palatial Chavan Niwas, a house so huge that she could have got lost in it. And she did. Got so embroiled in the family matters that academics seemed like a second priority now.

The meeting with the Dean was an eye opener. You are not doing well, Sai. Please focus single minded on your studies henceforth. All your professors are complaining. I know you are married, so either learn to juggle the two, or pick up one and say good bye to another. Let me know your decision by the end of the day.

She had been in two minds after that. She could not afford to let go of her dreams. On the other hand was the formal deal called marriage which was never what it should have been. Virat never loved her. For him, she was just a baggage that was handed over to him for safekeeping.

And she had taken the toughest decision of her life. She was independent, she could stay alone. She didn’t need Virat’s or for that matter, anybody else’s support to survive in this world. Seeking a transfer to Gadchiroli, a city which she knew well, she had calmly walked out of the Chavan mansion. Never looked back since that day.

Her hard work had paid off. She had aced all the exams with flying colours. This internship was a part of training, more like a Govt requirement. Every morning and evening she took a walk in the wilderness, it helped her connect with her roots. And yet…

Was she happy? There was something missing in her life. She could never really connect with her roommate, Dr Mithila, for whom life was a huge rainbow. They were good friends, but all Mithila knew about her was that her father was a police officer. Nothing more.

Sai turned her side and gazed fondly at the sleeping girl. Life was a bed of roses for her. She had even started dreaming of her soulmate once the internship was over. Similarly Dr Amish and Dr Rohan would move on with their lives. What about her? Where would she go?

Her phone pinged softly. It was time to get up.

***

“Good morning everybody!” Rohan was surprised to see Sai at the breakfast table, nursing her cup of tea. “Hey Sai! No morning walk today?”

Sai shook her head. Mithila, seated next to her, chirped in.

“You know what, the whole night I dreamt of that one person…that handsome police officer next door. So what if he is married…I was just thinking. What sort of husband would he make?”

Sai almost choked on her tea. Mithila continued, unaware of the chaos in her roommate’s mind.

“He must be a passionate lover. Just one smile and my legs went wobbly. Must be making his wife feel special every day and of course, every night!”

“Why don’t you ask him? He is likely to walk in here for dinner today!” Amish quipped in.

“But better apply for anticipatory bail before that. He is not going to like anyone asking such questions about his personal life. He might even arrest you!” Rohan added his bit.

“Oh come on. We have better things to think about!” Sai decided to put her foot down. We left the vaccination records incomplete yesterday. So how about that?”

Mithila did a facepalm. The sour-puss… An impatient honking from outside put an effective end to the conversation. Their Jeep had arrived.

The day passed on as usual.

The quartet returned before sunset and Sai decided to have her evening walk as usual. It helped her unwind and she let her thoughts wander.

What all had happened in the past 24 hours. ACP Virat Chavan was staying next door. Her eyes flew to the building next door. The signature white and blue car was missing. So may be he had not returned or had he left? The bleak wilderness was not exactly welcoming in nature. It would have bored him to the core. To stay here without his wife..

A sharp shooting pain from her big toe brought her to the harsh reality. She looked down, on the boulder that she had accidentally kicked. His wife. So he had gotten married, eh? To Pakhi, who else? They were madly in love with each other when she left. And he had never tried to contact her after that. Didn’t call her even once. So much for a responsibility…

But why was she even thinking about him? She had effectively restarted her life after leaving his house. So why…how did he matter to her now?

Angry honking of a car behind her jerked her to the present. It was the police vehicle. Lost in thoughts, she had never realized when it was dark and she accidentally strayed to the middle of the dusty road. Caught in the glare of full headlights, her hands flew to her eyes as a shield.

“Oh Ma’am…wanna die or what!” The driver yelled in his guttural tone.

She calmly stepped aside, her face turned away. Her past had taught her a valuable lesson. Conserve your resources. Pick the battles that you can fight and not necessary all of them. Many of life’s options may not be for you…

***

“Saab, it was one of the doctors who stay in the guesthouse!”

Virat, who had been dozing in the passenger seat, had jolted awake at the sudden screech of brakes. Then he had tried to squint through the darkness at the figure standing in the middle of the road, hands shielding the face against the glare. Then the figure had stepped aside, its face turned away, just as quietly. He leant back and closed his eyes.

“Hey, someone is hurt!” a splatter of blood on the floor alerted Sukhiram. Maria hurried to his side. Together they traced the trail to the washing area.

Sai was sitting on a stool and trying, in vain, to clean the wound.

“Oh my God. How did this happen. Sukhiram, get some help..” Maria was besides herself with worry.

“Ma’am, not to worry. We have three doctors staying with us. One is here..”Sukhiram’s finger pointed to Sai, “I am sure the rest will help though!”

“OK, go and find them. The first aid box is in my office!”

And sure enough, Amish and Rohan helped the injured Sai to a chair in the dining area. Mithila fetched the first aid box and neatly cleaned the wound.

“Does it hurt?”

Sai shook her head, amidst tears. “Not much. Just that…I didn’t realize it was so dark outside!”

“Done…” The bandage was over as Mithila’s slim fingers deftly knotted it. Rohan, peered in for a better view. “Good job. Looks like you kicked a heavy boulder. Full of dust. I think you need a tetanus shot!”

“Tetanus shot? We don’t have it here. For that we need to go to the district!”

“But that will take a while. Tomorrow is Sunday. The vehicle will be available only the day after!”

“Can’t this wait?

The doctors gaped at each other and refused in unison.

The silence was interrupted by a deep voice from the door.

“Good evening. Anyone home?”

“ACP Chavan! Just the person we need. Can we borrow your car, sir?”

A cliffhanger ???? I'm gonna start crying 😭 So she think he's married to Pakhi ? This girl..I tell you. As for ACP Saheb's ..ahem.. skills, Sai would definitely think it's Pakhi judging them. Urgghh...the thought is just revolting🤢

Also, toe stubbing is so painful, that a mere mention of it's pain can twist your insides.

Can't wait for the next one..
